I didn’t like this much - too sickly sweet for me, also very flat. Not great, but what would you expect from the sweaties?
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dogbomb (291) - ENGLAND - MAY 14, 2012
Bottle. Very dark brown with ruby hints. Very thick, lumpy tan head. Slight vinegars, plum, sherbert on the nose. Toffee, biscuit, some warm chocolates, fig and some slight tangy furnishings. Delicious throughout. Mouthfeel a little syrupy, but not unpleasant. Palate sweet and tangy and lasts deliciously.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
From BA: Brown bottle, 500ml, best before Oct 2007, drank 1st Feb 2007.
Poured into a straight pint sleeve glass.
Dark, very dark, where is my ’Deep Purple’ collection, I can’t remember, most likely in the attic. Off white head soon disappears to leave a wispy covering on the liquid.
Caramel, burnt malts and biscuits (cookies for my American readers) cooked for too long, all come to mind as I sniff out the aroma.
Sweet, creamy and heavy, well it is 7.3%, the burnt malty aroma is in the taste also, but not enough to turn your tastebuds against the beer, a good complexed feel to it really.
Sweetness stays, malts and dark, bitter chocolate, arrive later as the mouth is drying.
This beer grew on me, as I drank it, rich is too strong a word to describe it (although the label does), well off, or comfortable would be better terms to use. Will I have another, yes, but not tonight.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Swaroga (356) - Brussels, BELGIUM - APR 18, 2012
50cl bottle. Dark/black filtered liquid. Dirty white head. Nose ; tart with alcohol aromas, chocolate. Sip : Low to medium density, low carbonation. Sweet beer with chocolate bitter aftertaste. some flower hops. It seems, the bitterness comes more from malts then from hops. Overall : tasty beer. Hate UK regulations for a beer to be sold in a superstores ( filtered, pasteurized). OK.

bottle pours a deep chestnut brown with a tight beige head that stays . luscious inviting aroma of toffee , malt , burnt sugar . taste is the same plus a hop bitterness coming through and providing a long aftertaste during which some alcohol warmth comes through . full bodied , rich mouthfeel with modest carbonation . Not bad
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 BenH (745) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 28, 2012
Bottle courtesy of TheCametron. Looks great chestnut brown with impressive head. Strange funky vegetal aroma with some caramel, toffee and brown sugar. Less vegetal in taste, lots of caramel and toffee, still a bit on unpleasant hop presence. Sweet. Ok
