Originally brewed by McEwan’s at the Fountain brewery in Edinburgh. Production moved from Fountain to the Caledonian Brewery in 2004. The McEwan’s brand passed to Heineken in 2008 after their purchase of Scottish & Newcastle’s British operations. Heineken sold the brand to Wells & Youngs in 2011. Packaged (bottle & can) McEwan’s beers are produced at Wells & Youngs brewery in Bedford.
Amber colour with a notably thick head. A sweet, spicy aroma with a hoppy finish.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear copper amber, with a small off-white head, which does not last all that well nor leave much by way of lacing. The aroma is mainly nutty and biscuit malt, without a lot else going on. Very mild floral hops lead through a touch of honey to a sweetish mix of nutty and biscuit notes, with more honey in the finish. This is not a terrible beer, simply very bland. A bit of hops presence to balance the sweeter malt flavours would do it a world of good.

It’s a beautiful mahogany-colored all starts with a beautiful white foam that falls to a moderate crown with lasting head of foam. The aroma is caramel malt with very lightly toasted touches where also a little nuts come in unobtrusively with the flavoring. Very fine and delicate fill abstracts part from appearances expectation. Watery from the start, but with fine light caramel notes and a light and almost imperceptibly finish of hazelnuts. Velvety soft carbonation fondles almost on the tongue and contributes to the flavor notes will be sustained. Hop bitterness is very appropriate and in fine balance with cubits little anonymous fullness. Its dark mahogany color and distinct aroma cheat a little in the beginning, because you expect a somewhat more pronounced taste of malt and hops, but meets instead of discreteness that actually fits very well with the guide. Very easy to drink and really tasty too, despite its somewhat flimsy character.

Pours deep amber with a nice off white head. Mild and sweetish aroma. Taste sweetish with notes of caramel and nuts. Just a very faint dryish floral notes. Smooth mouthfeel, soft CO2. Sweetish overall impression but drinkable. (500ml can, bb 22.05.2016)

can from co-op supermarket, drank at home, in 12 fl oz scooner. inoffensive beer, nice amber colour, creamy head, malty, slightly sweet caramel flavor. Remember this (original S&N version) as the beer available on British rail in the 1980’s, not as bad a expected,

Color Coca Cola. Rica.
