[WBA Styles Tasting] Deep copper/brown color. Very malt-dominated aroma, with a very subtle smokiness. No real hop aroma to speak of. Chocolate, roasted malt and sweet caramel in the flavors. Just a hint of acidity and sour character towards the finish. Very warming.

Incredible beer, smooth, very sweet. Chocolate and caramel, and very malty. No hint of the 8% alcohol

Dark pour with deep brown color. Tan cream head, smells of roasted caramel and a sweet chocolate fruity aroma. Fills the pallet with a malted flavor, the smells transfer to the taste, sweet and subtle. Great smooth finish which keeps the high alc. content in check.

Pours very dark brown with a a little light mocha head. Aroma of caramel and chocolate, so delicious. Taste is a rich malty caramel flavor with a slight fruity finish. Alcohol is very well hidden in thi one. This is a fantastic beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours out a cloudy dark brown color. A nice thick one finger head with a very rich malty aroma. It has a good chocolate malt flavor with a touch of vanilla that becomes more intense as it warms up. Nice creamy texture that lies well on the pallet. Alcohol taste is present and borders on almost too much, but is OK. Not a ton of complexity but very enjoyable. I will defiantly make this a part of my beer rotation.

Bottle sent to me by CaptainCougar, thanks Tom. Pours hazy dark brown with a medium sized tan colored head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, light peat-like. Flavor is rich caramel, earthy, chocolate, peat, hint of spiciness to it. Palate is medium towards full bodied, medium carbonation, finishes sweet. I rather enjoyed this one, cant believe I’ve never tried this before.

A dark nutbrown beer with a fine but fast diappearing lightbrown head. The aroma is very sweet with no complexity. The flavor is malty sweet with notes of roasted malt but no bitterness. It is very strong and very sweet for a Schottish ale. Too sweet and simple for me.

I tried this beer on January 11, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto. The beer poured a dark brown colour with a creamy tan coloured head. The aroma was rather weak with some fruity hints. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour had some malt taste up front with some grass and maple flavourings added to the mix.
