Deep brown color. A chocolate and caramel body with a lingering sweet finish.

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2007 Poured in tulip glass. Nice fizzy head with excellent lacing. Color is very dark brown, almost black, with a nice ruby afterglow. The aroma is dominated by malt; burnt and toasted. There are also prominent hints of whisky, peat, butterscotch, raisin, and strong vanilla bean. Very complex aroma. The taste is heavy and dense with peat, dark fruits, vanilla and rye. Overall this bad boy is thick and complex but also easily drinkable and quite enjoyable, with the high dose of alcohol following through with a warming finish. This beer would be great on a chilly fall night, but is a little heavy for the summertime.

Very dark brown in color with no head and no lacing. Aroma and flavor are very awkward and unappealing. Bland piney flavor, boring and rather disgusting.

This beer is a disgrace. Admittedly out of the bottle. Dark syrupy texture coupled with an overly sweet flavor, this scotch ale resembles a poorly brewed porter

The Killer! This is in my top 10 of all time. Buy it by the case, what’s wrong with all you! Argh!

This was surprisingly good. Poured deep brown with ruby red highlights. Nice foamy head and lacing left on glass. The taste was really sweet. I’m kinda new to Scotch Ales, but it reminded of a dopplebock with the really sweet malty backbone. A touch of roasted malt and something else (hint of chocolate) presence in the end. Not much by way of hops. I think I’d have to have this a few more times to really decide if I like it...might be a tad too sweet.

Pours a dark brown in color. Sweet, caramel on the nose. There is a thick feel in the mouth. A very smooth beer, and very malty and sweet in taste. No alcohol taste despite the 8% abv. This is a regular for me as I have found friends who did not like most of the beers at my house to be to their liking but nobody has not liked McEwans.

Bottle. Rich, somewhat sweet, smell. Not heavy at all. Drak brown amber in color. Unique flavor and journey on the palate. Highly carbonated. Finish is clean, yet interesting. There is something very "new" about this beer to me. It is the progression in the mouth that is very unique and leaves me wondering how much I really liked it. I want to give this beer another shot.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2008 Really good. Pours a nice dark brown color with carbonation bubbles. Small soapy head. Tastes like nuts, honey, roasted malt, and caramel. Would definitly drink this again. Re-rate: FIrst rating was on tap, second rating in the bottle. It is very true that anything on tap is much better than a bottle, especially when it is coming from across the pond. I would knock the flavor down to an 8 from the 9 I gave it originally but other than that this is still a really solid beer.
