UPDATED: JUN 2, 2008 330ml bottle. pours very dark brown with a finger of off white head. aromas of roasted malts, caramel, a little smoke. all this comes together to produce great balanced flavours of malt and sweetness with lingering complexity. great warm mouthfeel. this brew improves as it warms and is a great buy.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2007 12 oz, pours almost opaque and dark brown, with a medium-sized and lasting head. Aroma is caramel, figs, earthy spices, and slight alcohol. Flavor is an exquisite blend of the same components, and more: wood, whiskey, vanilla, slight smoke? Palate is extremely smooth and balanced; just enough dryness to balance all the complexity.

Dark reddish in color. Sweet smell, very subtle aroma of malt. Syrupy palate. Sweet taste of brown sugar or mollasses. Very good.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2007 Bottle, from Dagli’ Brugsen, Nordborg. A great dark mahogany with a nutbrown edge. Head is small and has a nice beige colour that supplements the liquids colour. Aroma is malty sweet with english toffee, oak, roasted malts and a slight smoky edge. Falvour is caramel based with dark dried fruits, pine, oak and a little vinious. Low carbonation giving it a good oily mouthfeel.

Pours a really cool looking deep, deep reddish maroon. Almost looks like wine but with a big well retained light tan head. Very fruity, malty aroma. Cranberries, cinnamon, malts, and cherries is what I pick up in the smell. The taste is fruity sweet, alot of brown sugar and dark berries really stand out. Easy drinking for a scotch ale, goes down pretty nice. Really good session beer for this style.

Brown sugar, malt and honey sweetness in the nose, great looking dark brown with reddish highlights and a thick tan head. Chocalate malty palate along with caramel and toffee and a bit of candy cane - finishes dry. Nice.

Bottle. Ebony appearance and good head retention. Aroma is milder than expected, revealing whiskey, dark malt and faint molasses, but only after giving the glass a gentle swirl. Thick, luxurious mouthfeel is like velvet on the tongue. The high 8% alc./vol. is there, but excellently controlled, with none of the sharp edges usually present in a beer of this strength. The flavour, like the aroma, doesn’t pack the expected bang, and shows gentle nuances of sweet brown sugar and caramel. Not terribly remarkable from a flavour standpoint, but alluring because of how innocently this strong beer goes down.

Bottle. Brown pour, no lace. Smooth flavor, malt heavy. Enjoyable but expected a bit more.
