Draught at Cockney Pub. Frothy white good mostly lasting head. Brown-amber colour. Moderate malty and hoppy slightly sour aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Caramellic and light "oyster" notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. A bit disapointing.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 KyotoLefty (3480) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 19, 2010
Bottle. Dark brown, almost black, with a touch of red. Nice tan colored head, rather fine bubbles. Sweet malt aroma. Caramel, dried fruits, raisins. Sweet flavor. Full-on malt with caramel, raisins, a touch of chocolate and coffee. Not very bitter, though the alcohol balances it a bit, as does the small amount of roasted flavor. Not a lot of hops, for sure. Malt and alcohol finish. Very nice. A great dessert beer, a warmer. Thick and rich. I am enjoying it thoroughly.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Kands (40) - Missouri, USA - FEB 20, 2010
McEwan’s Scotch Ale -- 5/29/2009 from 12 oz. bottle . . .
Aroma: Medium sweet; Caramel; Brown sugar; Some fruity notes.
Appearance: Opaque; Deep brown color; Thick and foamy off-white head with good retention; Minimal lacing.
Taste: Medium sweet; Caramel and toffee; Roasted malt; Some fruit, brown sugar and alcohol.
Palate: Medium thick; Slightly oily; Medium carbonation; Finishes warm and sweet, but a bit sticky on the tongue.
Overall: A good Scotch Ale. A bit sticky in the mouth feel, but has a good, complex taste. Had this beer two times, and both times had an upset stomach about an hour later - maybe just a coincidence.
2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 degbert (641) - Austin, Texas, USA - JAN 12, 2010
Heavy and sweet, which is typical for a Scotch ale; however, I don’t get a lot of caramel off it, or any toffee and brown sugar either. It’s dark, it’s sweet, but there’s a faint, almost unpleasant, medicinal or instant coffee edge to it. Maybe the bottle I had was bad, but frankly it tasted like carbonated Sanka, brewed in a bad motel kitchenette. Not enjoyable.
