A deep chestnut pour with a light off white head. The aroma greats you with a fine malty presentation, simple but not bad. The flavor was sweet malt & light molasses. Again, simple but well done. Medium body. A fair brew, nothing fancy.

Bottle. Poured a deep rich dark cherrwood brown with a medium tan head, good lacing. The aroma was overripe apple and malt. The flavor was quite sweet initially, with malt, candied apple, plum, brown butter, a bit of bitter hops and a warming alcohol finish. It definitely tasted more scotch-like as it warmed. Very thick and rich on the palate. Excellent beer, I’ll be buying this again.

Mahogany burgundy ale with a thick off white head. Butterscotch and coffee aroma. Sweet malt with barley sugar, light hops, persisting. Thick and oily bodied, smooth and effervescent. A classic. Tasted 28/01/05 at Institut Scotch Ale tasting.

Sweet but with a strong alcohol taste. Reminded me of an irish wiskey. Dark brown with a small, white thick head.

[bottle from kulminator 1984 vintage] Smells old but in a good way, sherry notes, sweet malty toffee, fruity notes of plum and a slight touch of roastiness. complex, smooth body with a sweet finish and the faintest touch of tartness.

Reddish-brown color, heavy but quickly dissapearing head. Rich smell, nutty with a real alcohol bite. The first taste confirms - alcohol is the defining characteristic. Chocolate, sweet, malty taste, rough palate. Not a session beer!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 CharlesDarwin (2570) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - JAN 6, 2006
Pours a clean dark ruby brown, with a creamy tall head of nut. Butternut and light salt aroma. General malt. Weak. Taste is a sullen, alcohol strewn and fibrous rich plain caramel malt, with some toffee and hazlenut. An articficial sharpness, that’s somewhat unpleasent. Mostly sweet clean malt, with a hint of cream, touch of pair and a finish of dry nut. Palate is a little sticky, yet ascerbic, but has some wicking nutty smack.
