Best ale I’ve had, full of flavor, no bitterness yet no funky sweet taste

Mt friend who was at the bar with swears something must have been wrong with the tap. Whatever happened all I got was a skunky, flat brew that couldn’t hold a candle to the 3F’s Robert the Bruce that I had earlier.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 BeerLimey (2136) - California, USA - MAY 18, 2001
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2003 Strong, dark Scoth-ale but not too heavy on palate. Nice creamy, foamy palate. Flavor starts malty, burnt-caramel, turns sherry-like with adequate bitterness in finish.

Admittedly not my favorite style, but this is a wonderful example of what a Scottish Ale should be: strong, very malty, slight bitterness.

Strong taste, lots of character. A unique and enjoyable scotch ale.

I continue to search, but by far the best scotch ale I have ever had. None other compares with the beautiful after taste that McEwans has. Very memorable.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Indra (2361) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - DEC 19, 2000
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2003 Malty aroma, some dark fruitiness, toffee and sweetness. Deep mahogany color with a creamy, off-white head. Vinous, malty and slightly sugary flavor profile, perhaps some faint chocolate. No discernible bitterness. Creamy palate, medium-bodied. It had been a long time since I had this last...it's not quite as good as I remember. Has the world changed or have I changed?

This is one hefty Scotch Ale. I too remember the first time I tried this having some difficulty enjoying the entire bottle due to its intense richness and sweetness. Almost like scotch itself, perhaps it is an accquired taste. After having this however several times since, this is truly one of the best beers of its style. Very thick, heavy and sweet. Loaded with carmel malt flavor. A nice fireside ale for a cold winter night.

A great scotch ale. If you’re new to drinking strong ales, be prepared for the alcohol to kick your ass.
The first time I drank this I could hardly finish it, because it was so damn strong. But I think you get used
to that, and now it’s among my favorites. Very malty, carmely, and rich. A great beer to look at because it’s so clear and deep red.
Nice head. Most of all, I love the carmel flavors I pick up on from this beer. That and the fact that one bottle can give me quite a
shit eating grin. ;-)
