This is a good looking beer with a very strong alchoholic taste. The hops are not noticable, but it has a malty snosh, heh.

If it's not Scottish it's .... This beer is very good - dark color, tan head, earthy aroma, hints of licorice. Taste is rich, with molasses and brown sugar followed by some hop bitterness. Look forward to having this one again!

The pour is a dark brown color that leaves the same colored body. Two fingered white foamy head that once it dies a nice spider web lacing sticks around the sides of the glass.
The aroma has peat, light chocolate, deep malts, just a touch of caramel all coming through smokey and sweet
The taste is sweet through the malts, chocolate and caramel. Sticky sweet aftertaste with a long dark sweet finish.
On the palate, it sits about a medium, shows that its more of a sipper and has a smooth carbonation to it.
Overall, I’d say this is some pretty good stuff that I would have again.

The first Scotch ale I ever had back in the 80’s, this is a re-try. Pours a very dark brownish ruby colour with a creamy white head that dissipates into a nice sticky lace. Smells of sweet roasted malts with notes of dark candied fruits and a bit of alcohol. Taste is a malty sweetness with notes of fresh coffee and buttery caramel. Smooth and creamy in the mouth and quite enjoyable overall. A very nice Scotch ale.

BBD 9/23/14. Very dark amber pour with a dark ruby cast. Nice head that laces well but diminishes in 3 minutes. Light nose of malt with hints of fig and other dark fruit. Outstanding medium body with a texture that approaches slick. Normal carbonation level. The well balanced and complex flavor profile is a blend of dark fruit that completely masks the 8.0% alcohol, set against a subtle caramel sweetness that is blessed with a touch of smoke. The finish is smooth with a short lived burst of smoke. Glad this outstanding ale is back.

This is a beautiful beer. A creamy head and wonderful aroma that reminds you of the great British beers. Really great malty flavor and very drinkable.

Small bottle from a 6-pack bought at BC Liquor Store in North Burnaby. A very darl ale with a bit of light colored head. Not getting much nose here. Very pleasant, but too thin and sweet for my liking. 3.3.

Pretty good scotch... Not my favorite, but pretty good. Fairly sour and dry, malty and dark.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From 12oz bottle to shaker. Pour is a deep brown, almost black. Nose is heavy roasted malt, scotch, caramel, coffee. Taste is heavy bodied, bitter and sour. Finishes with the scotch bite to it, but smooth. Great beer, love the complexity. A lot of scotch ales don’t have a scotch taste, this is not the case here.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml (11.2oz) bottle. Pours dark, clear, cola-brown. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, peat. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, peat, roasted grain, with a sweetness that runs from beginning to end. The gold standard of scotch ales. Glad to see it is being distributed again.

11.2 oz bottle, thanks brenn79. Aroma is sweet, toasted marshmallow, fruity esters, minerals, very English. Pours clear mahogany with a one finger beige head with decent retention. Taste is sweet, finishing dry with a little tartness. A little oxidized. Oily texture, full body. A little too sweet for me.
