For a rather dark ale, this beer is surprisingly light, and easy to drink. I think the only hinderance is the strong alcohol finish due to the 8% alc by volume of this fine beer. Very good!

Excellent flavor appearance and palate. Malty, smooth and strong. My current favorite.

enjoyable brown malt. Flavourful, with a rich pour and medium head. Not for an evening of heavy drinking.

I love this beer. Sweet, thick and 8% by volume. Two of these and I have a nice buzz. The down side is that the taste (to me) is so appealing that I tend to want to keep drinking more which is not always in my own best interest. :)

I first had this on tap at an Irish pub in Mons, Belgium. The bottled stuff in America looks and tastes pleasantly similar; most notable difference is a quickly diminishing head. Caramel, roasted malt, and butterscotch aroma gives a sneak peak at the body, which is surprisingly sweet compared to other scotch ales. Butterscotch lingers thick on palate and nearly drowns out any chocolate notes. Alcohol more noticable on aftertaste. Easily McEwans’ best brew.

One of the best beers I’ve had in a long time. roasty caramel aroma, clear black, tan foam, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium body, oily feel, average carbonation, long finish.

Definitley one of my fav’s. Smokey, peaty taste with sweet overtones of wild berries and chocolat and a little coffee taste. Nice malty bitter finish. Love it!!

my first scotch ale and I’m in love. a dark yet opaque color. a slightly floral smell with a caramel head. a slight taste of chocolate and caramel flavor, yet sweet with little bitterness. lIKE A NEW AND IMPROVED SMITHWICKS OR NEWCASTLE. mouthfeelL Was extremely pleasant and I wish I had bought a sixpack instead of just one. will go back for this one again

This beer is a disgrace. Admittedly out of the bottle. Dark syrupy texture coupled with an overly sweet flavor, this scotch ale resembles a poorly brewed porter
