3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 italarican (885) - Astoria, New York, USA - APR 9, 2012
On tap at the original Pensacola location. Pours a somewhat clear dark chocolate with light khaki head. Aroma has notes of coffee and dark chocolate backed by earthy hops. Subtle notes of sweet milk chocolate in the flavor, but this is primarily coffee and earthy hops. A touch of dirt in the finish with moderate alcohol presence. I wish the roastiness came out more in the finish.

Draft in Destin, Florida. I can definitely tell that this beer lacks the additives of some of the major brews. Thick, dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Flavor of roasty nuts and hops.

Draught, Pensacola Close to black with a thin head. Chewy molasses and dark fruit aroma. Soft, creamy, with lots of vanilla and coconut sweetness. Only slightly fruity. The alcohol shows only in a slight, late dryness.

Black with tan head. Not pitch black but close. Strong fruity aroma includes raspberry. High gravity feel in the body. Some chalkiness in the aftertaste. Lots of vanilla in the flavors. Nice.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 tjthresh (1850) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - DEC 10, 2008
Draft in Pensacola. Pour is this and black and served with no head. An aggressive swirl did not create much head either. The overwhelming character here is chocolate syrup with some Quik stired into it. Very oily with a bit of grit. Sticky. Not bad. Actually, better than I expected.

On tap at the 2007 GABF: Pours a transparent dark amber mahogany with a thin ring of tan head. Aroma of some piny, earthy hops, dark chocolate and caramel malt. Body is fairly sweet and full with some big bittering earthy hops and warming alcohol toward the finish. An ok imperial stout, but could be a little darker, roastier and more complex.
