3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 eaglefan538 (2726) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - JUN 3, 2006
A very enjoyable beer, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. Darker than the La Bav that I’ve had from this style. The head was nice, but fizzled fast. The aroma was malty and some fruits were detectable. The flavor was pretty sweet and someone coulda told me this was a Belgian, and I woulda believed (some yeast, earthy flavors alongside what seemed to me to be candy sugar flavors). Mouthfeel was moderate but very drinkable.

Orangey-cloudy beer, heavy pearling to good rosy-ochre head, fast gone. Fruity, and very grainy nose, fresh malt (for a 2 year old beer!). Pure rosewater taste, filtering out more grain, this time with indeed a little oxidation. Extremely perfumey, but lacking depth somehow, unidimensional. Sweet-grainy aftertaste, not really new and not fullbodied, without being watery. Bit thanks to Eyedrinkale and mkobes for sharing this bottle. It’s certainly not them that can help it, but (REALLY, "Dude", I’m not doing this on purpose), I’ll probably be never a McKenzie’s fan...

Somewhat of a fruity nose, nice orange color. Has a lambic nose almost, but not quite.

750ml from axilla. Pours a light orange color with a frothy white head. Nose is spicey, yeasty, grass and straw, some light citrus. Taste is spicey again, more grass and straw, some light fruity apple notes, biscuity and yeasty. Finishes with a hint of bitternes.

Had 2 pints of it at the brew pub and was quite impressed with it. Aroma is somewhat fruity. Flavor is tasty with some light caramel and malt coming through. A great surprise for my meal there. Took home a growler with me.

Sampled at brewpub. Pours a very nice copper/red with with a clingy tan foam on top. Spicey nose with a bit of yeast. Flavor is a lot of spices, a good bit of yeast, apples, coriander, and a little whiskey. Nice beer overall.

Bottle from Eyedrinkale in the suite at the Hampton before we got kicked downstairs... White head with a subtle earthy grass/straw aroma. Yeasty, dry on the palate almost like a white wine. Malty flavor profile that highlights a variety of spices with the hops in the background. Very nicely done beer. Shame to hear Mike’s comments about the brewery situation...
