2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 ljbrisson (3) - Philadelphia, USA - JUL 21, 2008 does not count
Draught: McKenzie’s Brew House, Glenn Mills PA. Very dark brown colour. Head is about half an inch with good amount of lacing. Mouthfeel is heavy but loose, a little watery. The strong oaky, roasted coffee taste with some chocolate and a hint of anise seems to add a little weight. Medium-high alcohol content. This beer seems more suited to drink after a meal than with it due to its strong coffee flavor.

On tap at Devon. Mostly opaque black with moderate foamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, licorice, oatmeal. A little bit sweet, low bitterness. Medium bodied, mostly smooth. Pairs well with food, but leaves a little to be desired on its own.

Tap at McKenzie for RBSG 2011. Pours a clear black ruby with a small, tan head. Scant lace. Looks pretty dark. Nose is light coffee and toast but fairly muted. Taste is sweet with tart acid mash and oatmeal grain. Overall fairly tart and prickly. Soapy and oily dichotomy in the finish. Intredasting.

Pours coca-cola brown with a thin brown head. Not a ton of aroma. Taste has some burnt notes that come off like licorice. Has some silliness but the finish is watery.
