UPDATED: JUN 24, 2012 The beer pours dark mahogany clear with a small lacey head. It smells like the funk amd the French wine barrels, like cherry notes from the oak so awesome in the nose. The flavors of wild with sour cherry notes and grape oakiness from the barrels. It could do great things with some cellar time.

Sampled at GABF on 9/18/2010. This ‘sour ale’ pours a medium to dark brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is dark fruit, tart, wood and oak. A medium bodied sour ale. The malts are fruity, cherry, a touch of funk, tart and oaky. Little to no carbonation. Hides the alcohol well. Lots of oak at the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly tart.

Sampled on draft. Very nice appearance - cloudy but attractive reddish-brown color with a lasting light beige head sitting on top, and good lacing. The aroma is vinous and -baly with big-time sour cherries, oak, funk, and roasted malts. The flavor has a porter base of roasted malts and chocolate, soured and funkdafied (shout out to Da Brat for that one), with red wine, oak, and cherries. Dry and somewhat tart on the palate with medium-full body and a slight boozy presence. Good stuff overall - another interesting sour from McKenzie. Way to make PA proud, guys.
