COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Belgian style farmhouse ale balances a bold, spicy yeast character with a dry hoppiness. A significant addition of malted rye adds further complexity without betraying the styles roots. Draft (and bottlings prior to 2010) are clean with no wild yeast.

Tap at McKenzie. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a scant white head. Nose is sharp lemongrass and pepper. Taste is doughy and with mild buttery biscuit. Not really saison. Bottled version is more tart and acid mash centric.

On tap at brewpub. trans gold, thin white head gone quick. Nose of eggy Brett, dust, light lemon, bit of paper. Flavor is oily, dry paper, bit of citrus from yeast, light ethanol. No balance, a combo of flavors, none enjoyable.

In short: A very crisp, very dry, very wild and slightly spicy Saison. Exemplary funky example of the style.
How: Bottle 750ml. Oct 2009 bottling. Consumed about 9 months after bottling date.
The look: Cloudy yellow body topped by a large white head with medium retention
In long: Nose is very bright and very wild with also flowers and dry grass. Taste is full of dry hay, a ton of funk, some banana peels, dry orange peels, spicy notes, a lot of very dry burnt grass. The intense dryness of the grassy hops brings accentuates the spicy sensation. Very lively carbonation. I could drink this on a daily basis and never get tired of it. Wow! Totally unexpected great beer. This beer is underrated and flying under the radar while I am underpaid and driving under the influence.

On tap, at brewery. Hazy yellow gold body with a small fizzy white head. Nice nose, a little perfumy without being overbearing. Some yeaastiness and a touch of farmhouse character. Nice mix of hops and spices with some good yeast influence. A nice earthiness on the finish. From the rye maybe? A little lighter on the finish. Medium bodied with soft texture and gentle fizzy carbonation. Long lingering perfumy finish. Pretty nice Saison!
