Opaque black with a small, dark tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, burnt wood, dark fruits, and chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, more dark fruits, smoke, dark chocolate, and light alcohol in the finish.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This rating is of the aged version 2012 vintage. Purchased at Devon in June of 2013. Canít remember if it was barrel aged or not but it wasnít bourbon or anything like that. ABV is 8.5%. Pours a pretty dark brown. Not much head, but whatís there is pretty white. Little lacing. Fantastic aroma. Just fantastic. Earthy, bitter, coffee grounds, blackberry. Highlight of the beer for sure. Mouthfeel is spot on for the ABV. Itís not super high ABV nor is it sweet or syrupy. Kinda dry and tingly. Taste is very roast coffee. Lots of dark fruit. Very complex. Wow! This was a surprise, and a fun one at that! They only bottled 36 bottles so Iíll never see this again, but was happy to have it. Good for McKenzie!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the 2007 GABF as Russian Imperial Stout: Pours a viscous nearly opaque with a small, frothy dark tan head. Aroma of slightly earthy dark caramel and soy with some bittering hops and cheesiness. Body starts with some more earthy cheesy notes and some sweet caramel and dark chocolate. Finishes, slightly soapy and drier and bitter. Not much for an imperial stout.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at the Glen Mills location. The pour was dark brown-black, thin initial head, thinning to nothing, spotty lacing on the way down. The aroma was milky chocolate, light piney resinous notes. The flavor was a milky (almost slightly chalky) very lightly roasted chocolate, some currant type berry flavor underneath it all, finishing with a bit of hop zing, but not all that highly hopped, lingering bitternesss and piney notes. Light on the flavor and mouthfeel, this thing wanted to be so much bigger. Mouthfeel a little too soft as well.
