Australian Pale Ale
Whilst the grape is usually associated with McLaren Vale, it is the region’s epicurean tradition which is most pervasive. With this in mind, we are pleased to introduce Vale Ale — a bottle conditioned premium pale ale hailing from one of the world’s great wine regions, McLaren Vale. To be one of the leading beers in the world. Vale Ale is a sophisticated and complex Australian ale with great structure and balance. It opens with bright aromas of hops combined with citrus notes. The palate presents a bouquet of pronounced fruit flavours with nutty malt and bitter hops following on the mid palate. The finish is quite dry for a pale ale, perfect to quench a summer’s thirst. It is brewed from the finest malt and hops and fermented with traditional ale yeast. It is not filtered or carbonated but allowed to finish off its fermentation in the bottle which achieves a subtle carbonation that complements the ale style. It finishes light on the palate and leaves a refreshing finish and light effervescence. http://www.valeale.com/

Bottled version brewed at Laverton until the introduction of a bottling line to the Willunga Brewery.

On tap @ The Bottle Shop, London - UK. Color: hazy blond beer with no carbonation and medium white foam. Smell: malt and caramel domination well balanced with yeast notes. Good nose. Taste: medium body well balanced between sweet caramel malt ant yeast. Yeast finish and astringent. Aftertaste: fruity taste, candied apricot and yeast. Small alcohol notes. I really like it.

From bottle in Belgian ale glass. Pours cloudy and golden in the South Oz pale ale tradition. Modest yeast and hop aroma. Sweeter than many pale ales. Refreshing on a hot day. Like the rhyme in the name.

330 ml bottle bought at YATA in New Town Plaza, Shatain.

Cloudy hazy dull orange amber colour with no yeast sediments; No head and thin residual soapy white foam which fades in 5 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing with barely notable carbonation; Sweet aroma of ale malt, with light grapefruit, lemon, light floral, molasses, pine, earth and yeast; Close to light sweet taste of light ale malt, with very light grapefruit, grapefruit oil, faint molasses, light pine, very light resin, thin biscuits, yeast, lemon, bitter hops and grass; Light body. Watery palate; Mouth feel is very lightweight Ale, so thin you might think someone put a concentrated Ale capsule in a large jar of water. Notable grapefruits but seems fake, fairly strong pine and traces of resins, but yeast is thin. Bitter but not so tasty lemony hops rounds up. No!... Hoppiness is light grapefruit, light floral, pine and lemon in nose and taste, with a bit more resin and spice to the tongue. Bitterness is notable, seems more than 25 IBU suggests for a lasting fair bitter finish; Fairly dry after taste. Watery and bitter to mouth.

Comments: It doesn’t matter whether this is a APA or just a local Aussie Pale Ale, the watery palate, low-fi maltyness and rather half-hearted Amercian hops doesn’t really help its cause, and it has a lowly feel to it. Barely acceptable and I won’t touch it again!

330ml bottle. Pours clear golden yellow. Faint hops nose. Corny unbalanced taste. This ale hints at many things, but doesn’t have the courage to strike for it. Odd.
