Nice aroma. Roast, toffee overtones. All in all a tidy effort, not as good as another South Australian which is one of my favs - Pepperjack.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 25, 2012 (bottle) Poured clear dark amber / red with no head. Lovely aroma that developed over time, starting with floral and perfume notes evolving to a toffee / candy with hints of fruit (passionfruit?). Light body, well carbonated. Flavour has a nice balance of richer sweeter tastes like toffee and raisins with clearer cleaner refreshing notes. There is a little pleasant bitterness in the finish. Overall it is very quaffable beer, with a nice balance.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
They have got this right to the extent its got some hop impact and thus consistent with the American style. Roast is a little sweet but no depth or real impact. So, part from the bitterness, which got me in the right frame of mind, there’s not really much else to this beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle. Burnt copper to red in colour with a small level foam head. Sweet malty aroma with a hint of fruitiness. Refreshing and enjoyable with a crisp finish. The best of that Vale beers so far.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From a 330ml bottle on 12/10/2011. Pours a clear dark amber with a small head. Has a mild chocolate malt aroma. The flavour is also primarily milk chocolate, with some mild roasty notes, and a mild hop finish. A vast improvement on their weak ale and dry brews, but that’s no great achievement. A passable effort but fairly dull for a dark beer.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Clear brown with a beige head. Aroma of caramel, grass, mild spices. Sweet with caramel, some nuts, modest spicy bitterness that hangs around a bit. Not much life in the mouthfeel. Not my sort of thing but OK.

On tap at the courthouse. Very well balanced. Aromas of nuts, cola, and caramel. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes, and good length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Brown, with a frothy head.
