Mild aroma of roasted hops. Pleasant flavour of coffee, a little thin but still quite good.

From 330 ml bottle. Pours a clear but dark mahogany brown with brick red highlights and a small tan head. Aromas of soft fruit (like stewed apple or pear), Cocoa powder, and touches of lemon and flowers. The taste lets it down a little - the fruit is still there but the chocolate note seemed to disappear altogether. Virtually no bitterness, though a slightly grassy hop element comes through. Clean finish with a light fruity aftertaste. Not bad at all.

Bottle. Purchased expecting a dark ale, but light flavour quickly revealed this was a lager. Tasty roast and malt flavours made it pleasant but not impressive.

I really like this, which is surprising as I have been somewhat indifferent to previous McLaren Vale beers. Nice aroma of coffee with a very strong chocolate and coffee flavour with a bit of a flabby vanilla hit mid palate. Finish is slightly drying tannins with minimal bitterness. Will be revisiting this one.

Pours a dark hazy brown with a small beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel with some chocolate, vanilla, citrus, coffee and roasted notes. Taste is light to medium sweet leading to a thin lightly roasted finish. Pretty watery. OK.

Black coloured beer with a tan crispy head. Aroma of roasted malt with notes of chocolate. Taste of chocolate with roasted malts. Although with a flat finish. But with some after-taste of roasted malts. Quite simple taste with some sweetness. Probably one of the best dark lagers I have tried so far.
