COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
THIS IS OUR INTERPRETATION OF WHAT A NEW WORLD CRAFT LAGER SHOULD BE, APPROACHABLE, SESSIONABLE, BALANCED AND FLAVOURSOME. THIS BEER IS FILTERED FOR SMOOTH AND REFRESHING CRISPNESS WITH MEDUM CARBONATION. THE 100% MALTED GRAIN PROFILE IS A COMBINATION OF PILSNER, CARAPILS AND LIGHT MUNICH, WHILST THE HOP BILL INCLUDES THE NOBLE GERMAN HOP TETTNANG, AUSTRALIAN HELGA AND NZ PACIFICA. THE SWEET MALT CHARACTERS ARE BALANCED BY THE EARHTY SPICE AND FRESH CITRUS KICK AND FLORAL NOTES DERIVED FROM THE HOPS.

Bottled version brewed at Laverton until the introduction of a bottling line to the Willunga Brewery.

Very clear mid gold, no head and light gas. Great hop high notes light malt and very drinkable . Could slip down several of these without complaint. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Dan Murphy’s. Bright clear gold/yellow, no head to speak of, bready, citrusy, slightly rubbery, nothing special, quite thin/watery. Such a disappointment after their IPA, which is one of my favourite session beers.

Hasn’t quite gripped me as it sits in the glass. Headless, soda-like and with an appearance I’d expect from a Strongbow™ cider than a lager beer. Nose is dominated by grapefruit and lemon and lime zest with a touch of passionfruit to round it off - minerally and not quite clean. Light and a little too watery with no malt for back-bone. The fruit of the nose plays unconvincingly on the palate. A touch of rubber and plastic in the finish. Awkward in mouthfeel with light carbonation and a flat finish. Expected a lot more than this. Pretty one-dimensional stuff! (33cL, BB 24/05/14, Dan Murphy’s Currambine)

From a 330ml bottle on 13/6/2013. Pours a crystal clear pale yellow with a medium bright white head. Not too much in the way of aroma - just a bit of grain and a hint of fruit. The flavour surprised me - it’s actually rather pleasant. There’s quite a bit of bready malt, a touch of citrus, and a moderate dash of hops, which makes it quite refreshing. Has a light body and lively carbonation. I’ve come to expect to be disappointed by McLaren Vale beers, but it’s pleasing to see them come up with an above average pale lager. Like the label as well.

Rated for what it is, a Pale Lager. Description fits the end result. Hops are quite pleasant in aroma and and malts are bready with maybe a hint of vanilla back there. Fares more then good stacked up against others, say Boags or Cascade. Nicely crafted Pale Lager.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2013 Tap at the local joint. Smells like a ginger beer? Weird. Taste a little like something half way between a ginger beer, cider and lager. Weird stuff. Not great but not really too bad in any way. Just not what I was expecting. Probably dirty lines....

I created an account just to say how wrong pmuzz is. This beer is a Lager, not an Ale, it’s not supposed to have hops and malt smashing you in the face as you drink it. It’s not a German Pilsner and it’s not supposed to be anything like the American style rice lagers like anything from CUB or Lion Nathan. It is actually a very well balanced Lager, with a good hop aroma and decent body. The finish is clean, crisp and refreshing. if you’re looking for a beer that’s not the same as the Brewing Giants flavourless rice beers, but still want a good refreshing beer that you can session on without it being grassy or sweet, then this very well balanced Lager is what you’ve been looking for. Probably the best Aussie lager i have had in years!

Tap at Vale Ale: If any day was suitable for a good cold beer it was 17/1 in Adelaide. It was so hot and uncomfortable and I needed a solid beer to slake my thirst. However, this was the most unimaginative and insipid beers I have had in a while. It looked as it had been diluted one part beer to ten parts water! Not good at all.
