COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What better way to honor St. Patrick's Day than with a fabulous stout brewed in the dry Irish style. McMenamins Irish Stout belongs to the dry Irish family and is brewed in the tradition of many famous Irish brews including Murphys, Beamish, and of course, Guinness. The term dry refers to the lack of residual sweetness found in some stouts. This quality provides a clean, crisp and refreshing draught. Aromas of chocolate and malt combine with hoppy, herbal nuances. The taste is complex, including pronounced roast barley flavors and a rich, bready warmth. These essences give way to a pleasing chocolate-espresso richness balanced by an herbal hop twang. Starts pouring March Grains: Pale Malt, Victory Malt, Flaked Barley, Chocolate Malt, and Roast Barley Hops: Kent Goldings Specifications: Original Gravity: 1.044; Terminal Gravity: 1.007; Alcohol by Weight: 3.7%

On tap at the Rock Creek location. A pretty solid Guinness clone. Pours a jet black color, nitro head. A sweet malty nose with metal and roast. Light, smooth metallic roast flavors, some toast and caramel. Clean and tasty,

Tap. Pours a clear dark brown, almost black, body with a small creamy brown nitro head. The nose is dry and roasty malt with just a light touch og burnt malt and minimal hops. The flavor is much the same, dry roasty malt, some light coffee and bitter hops on the finish. Lighter bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and a lingering burnt malt finish. Not bad, but doesn’t stand out from the pack.

A wonderful Irish Stout with NITRO. Light and smooth and dry. Everything you want out of an Irish Stout.

Draft (nitro) at McMenamin’s, High St, Eugene. Thought the percentiles a bit harsh, but the raw numbers are about right. I’m a sucker for the style, so I had to review it. Pours an opaque dark brown/black, roastiness and chocolate prominent in aroma, body of course very creamy, a bit of liveliness to finish. Not my favorite ever, but not too bad in the end.

Nitro at Market St. Black and shiny with a typical nitro head. Nose of roasty milk coffee, light chocolate and a bit of spice. Light and thin, with a bit of cardboard but nice dry roasty flavors of coffee and wood and a dry, lean finish.

Solid mouthfeel... there is some burnt coffee flavor. Some malts. Nice body, weak head. A good beer

Pours a pitch black and, as I had it on nitro, a thick, dense off-white head. Plenty of chocolate in the taste, light roastiness. Thin, watery body, lightly creamy. I wish it was a bit meatier, but it was very sessionable.

From tap at the Seattle brewpub. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty. Dark malty, roasted and somewhat bitter. Ends dry and dark roasted malty with a light bitterness coming through. Smooth chocolate into the finish.

Grainy, slightly sour aroma. Perhaps a touch of smoke. A deep mahogeny that borders on black with a pillowy taupe head. Chocolate flavor with slightly sour flavor that finishes very dry. Very smooth. Maybe a bit too thin on body - the substance seems to melt away.
