COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
n 1985, McMenamins became the first brewery in the U.S.A. to legally use fruit in the creation of ales. While many other breweries have followed suit, we still make this Ruby exactly as we first did: Light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Over 55 pounds of hand-macerated, fresh, whole raspberries are used in every batch. Taste the original!

Malts: Pale Malt

Sampled as Dad Watsons Ruby at Fremont Oktoberfest. Pours cloudy, the color of pink grapefruit juice. Light aroma of raspberry soda. Light body and carbonation, almost nothing in the taste. Dry finish. Effin near water.

Aroma of fresh juicy raspberries. Appearance is not unlike a glass of pink grapefruit juice - cloudy and pink. Flavor is very thin - somewhat watery - slight raspberry flavor with a faint bitter finish. Tight carbonation. A very refreshing summer beverage, certainly not a hearty drink.

Looks like a glass of grapefruit juice. Ruby, cloudy body. Wheat cereal malt with strong raspberry tartness. Dry and rather unappealing.

I am quite fond of Mcmenamins brew this ruby ale with some monstrous rasberry flavor did however dissapoint. I have had several reasberry brews and did not care for most, this was no exception. Mcmenamins does beer far better than the impression this brew leaves. Rasberry leaves that is, I suggest you all leave this one alone and grab a Terminator.

Appearance – Pours a hazy pinkish orange color, a very light orange. This looks like grapefruit juice, a very appetizing grapefruit juice. A clean white 1 and a half finger head subsides on the slower side of fast and leaves no lacing. Smell – This smells very fruity and wheaty. Tart raspberries dominate the smell with the wheat and slight hops taking up the rear. Taste – Raspberries and wheat, just like the smell. The aftertaste of raspberries is very sweet like a jolly rancher, absolutely delicious right now! Mouthfeel – A little low on the carbonation for the style, which hurts this beer a little. It is nice and light though, perfect for the summetime. Drinkability – This is a damn good fruit infused wheat beer, and I would be plenty happy to have pint after pint of this beer. It isn’t the best representation out there, but it serves its purpose well.

On tap at Eugene’s North Bend location. Grapefruit colored with very little head. Aroma of raspberries and sugar. It mostly tastes like grapefruit flavored sparkling water. Dry finish. Fairly weak on the palate.

On tap at Kennedy School location. Color of yellowish/gold. Aroma of raspberry and bread; a bit earthy. Flavor was thin and somewhat diluted. Raspberry with a wheaty, hay finish. A bit watery. Not great.

eyesolus (64) - Mill Creek, Washington, USA - MAR 4, 2009
Tap at Mill Creek location; somewhat raspberry pop mid palate but very diluted; very thin to watery; hop aroma did not match lacking hop flavor; bartender stated this ruby is made with fresh raspberries and not an elixir (hence the water feel in my opinion); not enough fruit flavor to compensate; definitely shied me away from getting again. (#5)

Apricot nose, hazy khaki color. Sweet malt and raspberry taste, no bitter to counter the sweetness. Sopay mouthfeel. Actually OK an OK beer for what is intended but I don’t like what was intenden.

22oz bottle from my buddy Josh. Pale yellow with a pink hue. Faint raspberry aroma, almost sour tasting. Taste is raspberries, slight sweetness, different from the aroma. Easy drinking, not a big favorite.
