n 1985, McMenamins became the first brewery in the U.S.A. to legally use fruit in the creation of ales. While many other breweries have followed suit, we still make this Ruby exactly as we first did: Light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Over 55 pounds of hand-macerated, fresh, whole raspberries are used in every batch. Taste the original!

Hazy tan, with a thin head. Served at the power station at the edgefield resort. Major raspberry aroma and flavor. Very sweet. Tastes more like fruit juice than beer.

Tasted @ the McMenamins Kennedyschool in Portland.
Avarage fruit beer. A bit light.

On tap at Old St. Francis School in Bend. Pours ruby indeed. A fruity, light ale. Not too sweet like some, but also not very strong. A light, crisp low-alcohol sipper for the hot summer days.

On tap@McMenamins Grand Lodge. Hazy, pale pink body with a thin white head. Moderate fruity aroma of berries, actually a bit artificial. Flavor is light and fruity, like strawberry and watermelon in an almost bubblegum type flavor. Itís suppose to be real fruit and probably is, but for me it tasted like a light blonde with a dash of fruit syrup.

Draft at Roseburg Station; Nose of very fresh raspberries and wheat; murky pink with a medium pink head; flavor is raspberry and very light hop notes, but not too sweet. Refreashing since it’s 90F today!

Sample size draft. This beer avoids most fruit beer pitfalls - itís not syrupy or overly sweet and the raspberry flavor is significant and well integrated into a crisp, refreshing beer.

Draught @ Oly Club WA 08í. Hazy rose color. Raspberries right form the get go. Sweet, tart raspberries: covers anything else going on here. If you like intense fruit beers this is a great choice. I am not one for this style but i certainly give them credit for putting this brew together.

Ungstrup (29135) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JUN 4, 2008
Draft at the Crystal Ball Room location. A hazy pinkish beer with no head. The aroma is sweet and dominated by raspberries. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of raspberries - somewhat artificial combined with notes of malt and wheat, leading to a dry finish. The body is thin. Not to my liking.

marcus (6343) - Sacramento, California, USA - MAY 14, 2008
This light amber ale poured with almost no head and a strong raspberry aroma. The flavor is way too watery and the fruit flavor is too light. But overall, itís a decent refreshing drink.

A pretty decent easy drinking fruit beer. IF only they used more hops and malt to achieve a higher gravity....then this would be a great beer.
