COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
n 1985, McMenamins became the first brewery in the U.S.A. to legally use fruit in the creation of ales. While many other breweries have followed suit, we still make this Ruby exactly as we first did: Light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Over 55 pounds of hand-macerated, fresh, whole raspberries are used in every batch. Taste the original!

Draught @ Lighthouse Brewpub, Lincoln City, OR. June 2005. Pours a slightly hazy orange/amber colour with a small white head. Fruity aroma with lots of raspberries. Sweet malty and thin flavor with hints of raspberry. Fruity finish.

This naturally carbonated beer is one of the only fruit beers I’ve ever found to be worth drinking. The flavor is refreshing, and while the raspberries are evident, so are the hops. This beer is a clouded tawney, pinkish hue, and is best served "medium cold", right between ice cold, and cellar temperature. The low carbonation level of this beer makes it an ideal competition grade speed chugging beer.

On tap at The Ram Hotel, Portland. Cloudy copper with thin off white head. Smell of raspberry. This is awful. Fruit isn’t integrated, no malt, empty and rather pathetic. Raspberry syrup runs through it. Nasty

Cloudy orange body. Aroma is loaded with raspberry with lesser notes of hops and bread. Sweet fruity raspberry finish. Probably one of the better fruit beers I’ve had. Avoids the cherry soda like flavors of some of the Sam Adams brews.

You know, I’ve never been much of a fruit beer fan so I already had low expectations. For a fruit beer this guy was pretty decent, mainly because the fruit flavor wasn’t very strong. I could still taste the beer beneath it which was a pretty decent beer.

Pours a one finger white head that fades quickly leaving no lace. Clear pink/amber color. Very light carbonation and light bodied. Raspberry nose. Starts sweet, clean raspberry flavor, some tartness at finish, good summer beer. $4.25 for a 22oz bottle from the brewery in Troutdale, Or.

Draught at the brewpub. hazy orange color with thin white head that laced the glass. Aroma was buttery caramel. I didn’t smell any raspberry, but there was a light raspberry flavor with a delicious buttery caramel flavor that followed the aroma. Above average amount of carbonation.

Excellenr raspberry...way better than New Belgium’s Frambozen. Good taste through and through. If you get a chance, try it!!

Draught at the Six Arms, Seattle Rosy pink as watermelon juice, with no trace of a head, muddy. If I inhale VERY deeply and long, I can get indeed some raspberry aroma. But is says "packed full of 60 pounds or raspberries...". Yes, on - the city’s water reservoir? Discreet fruit taste, as a bit of raspberry jam dissolved in a big galss of tap water (well, then maybe not as Seattle tap water contains lethal doses of chlorine). Refreshing it is, no doubt. OK, it’s light. Very poor fruit beer.

pale golden color with a touch of pink. white head. light ras aroma. less ras flavor but seems to add sweetness that balances with just a touch of bitterness. medium body but a little watery at the same time. maybe a fruit beer that a non-fruit beer person might like, a little. hot sunny rafting beer.
