COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
n 1985, McMenamins became the first brewery in the U.S.A. to legally use fruit in the creation of ales. While many other breweries have followed suit, we still make this Ruby exactly as we first did: Light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Over 55 pounds of hand-macerated, fresh, whole raspberries are used in every batch. Taste the original!

Malts: Pale Malt
Hops: Chinook
Fruit: Whole Raspberries

A very pleasant raspberry aroma and flavor. My glass is always tipped to brewers for using real fruit in this beer, although I typically donít care for fruit beers. This beer is quite pale and thin, but for what it is, itís quite pleasant. Try mixing this with the hammer head and itís even better.

On tap at McMenamins on the waterfront. Appearance is hazy, pale ruby red color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is mostly raspberry. Flavor is raspberry, grapefruit, and bread. Has a nice fruity sweetness on the forefront with some bitterness in the finish. Pretty light bodied, crisp, with a noticeable but subtle acidity to it. Overall, one of my favorites from McMenamins. Definitely nice to drink one of these and watch the sailboats go by on a sunny day though :-)

Tap at Mill Creek location; somewhat raspberry pop mid palate but very diluted; very thin to watery; hop aroma did not match lacking hop flavor; bartender stated this ruby is made with fresh raspberries and not an elixir (hence the water feel in my opinion); not enough fruit flavor to compensate; definitely shied me away from getting again. Excellent summer beer. Just the right amount of fruitiness with the wheat earthiness. Very drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer does a fantastic job of blending the strong flavor of rasberry while still tasting like a good ale. This oneís a sure thing

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2004 I can get this on tap at about 10 different places within walking distance of my house in Portland. Ruby is a great summer beer: nice and easy-drinking, pleasantly fruity with a great wheat flavor and character. Itís light and smooth on the palate, yet finishes with a delicious flourish. This is a great one to have on the way back home from work.

Appearance Ė Pours a hazy pinkish orange color, a very light orange. This looks like grapefruit juice, a very appetizing grapefruit juice. A clean white 1 and a half finger head subsides on the slower side of fast and leaves no lacing. Smell Ė This smells very fruity and wheaty. Tart raspberries dominate the smell with the wheat and slight hops taking up the rear. Taste Ė Raspberries and wheat, just like the smell. The aftertaste of raspberries is very sweet like a jolly rancher, absolutely delicious right now! Mouthfeel Ė A little low on the carbonation for the style, which hurts this beer a little. It is nice and light though, perfect for the summetime. Drinkability Ė This is a damn good fruit infused wheat beer, and I would be plenty happy to have pint after pint of this beer. It isnít the best representation out there, but it serves its purpose well.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2005 Underrated beer! Iíve had this a number of times and each time I am respecting it more and more. A pinkish colour with a very fruity taste. Not too heavy, yet not horribly light. An all around delicious treat.

Sample size draft. This beer avoids most fruit beer pitfalls - itís not syrupy or overly sweet and the raspberry flavor is significant and well integrated into a crisp, refreshing beer.
