n 1985, McMenamins became the first brewery in the U.S.A. to legally use fruit in the creation of ales. While many other breweries have followed suit, we still make this Ruby exactly as we first did: Light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Over 55 pounds of hand-macerated, fresh, whole raspberries are used in every batch. Taste the original!

Sampled as Dad Watsons Ruby at Fremont Oktoberfest. Pours cloudy, the color of pink grapefruit juice. Light aroma of raspberry soda. Light body and carbonation, almost nothing in the taste. Dry finish. Effin near water.

Pink grapefruit appearance. Sweet sugarry raspberry aroma. Raspberry sweetness on the palatebalanced by some coarse grainy dryness, slightly tart finish.

Draught @ Oly Club WA 08í. Hazy rose color. Raspberries right form the get go. Sweet, tart raspberries: covers anything else going on here. If you like intense fruit beers this is a great choice. I am not one for this style but i certainly give them credit for putting this brew together.

Draft pour pint at the McMenamins Anderson School. Iíve never met a raspberry beer I didnít like. Pours a bright peach color with a big bubble head. Fresh raspberry, slightly sour aroma. Flavor is a big raspberry center with a wheat finish. I donít know. I love the style. The beer is good.

Draft at Sherwood location. Arrived looking like pink grapefruit juice,, cloudy and pale pink color with little to no head. Raspberry dominates aroma, flavor is crisp and wheaty with berry and fruit notes and hints of hop. Medium body and gentle carbonation. Not bad for a summer cooler.

Light, hazy golden pour. Small head and a little lace. Blended malts and raspberry. There goes the raspberries in the flavor. Not a lot else present. Fuzzy palate, almost like eating one of the berries. Good if you like raspberries... a lot.

Very light, not much alcohol. Fruity too. Again, beer from McMenamins is too carbonated.

Looks just like grapefruit. Smells like ocean spray. Tastes like candy. No hops. I donít like raspberry and this has a lot of raspberry.

On tap at Oak Hills A: Cloudy cream color with a thin white head. N: Raspberry, corn, cracker, vegetal, minerality, grass. T: Lightly sweet and lightly tart. M: Light body, no alcohol, prickly carbonation. O: Nothng to this. Less a Portland classic and more of an avoid because itís not worth it.

On tap at Ramís Head location in Portland. Clear amber with a white head. Very light aroma of berries. Flavor is fruity (shocker) with notes of raspberry and some caramel. Moderately sweet, not much bitterness detected. Light bodied with a watery texture and moderate carbonation.
