COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
n 1985, McMenamins became the first brewery in the U.S.A. to legally use fruit in the creation of ales. While many other breweries have followed suit, we still make this Ruby exactly as we first did: Light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Over 55 pounds of hand-macerated, fresh, whole raspberries are used in every batch. Taste the original! Malts: Pale Malt Hops: Vary Fruit: Whole Raspberries Specifications: Original Gravity: 1.038; Terminal Gravity: 1.005; Alcohol by Weight: 3.3% Calories/pint: 170

Hazy tan, with a thin head. Served at the power station at the edgefield resort. Major raspberry aroma and flavor. Very sweet. Tastes more like fruit juice than beer.

(RBSG04) Cloudy pink grapefruit body. Aroma is medium sweet, some caramel, light raspberry. Taste is mild sweet, light raspberry. Light body.

(Draft: Dad Watson’s in Seattle, WA) This girlie beer has a fairly strong and tart raspberry flavor dominating throughout, but it’s very light flavored in general; Light bodied, lightly carbonated with a very thin finish; The nose is mostly lightly tart raspberry, with some vague wheat aromas; Golden in color, slightly cloudy, perhaps with a pink tint, but the bar is dark, so the 1-watt lamp doesn’t make for reliable viewing; Whitish head is mostly just a rim around the glass and a thin sheen

Seattle, RoySt. Nov. 2008 - Pinkish orange color. Light raspberry nose and taste. Abit ricey in the aftertaste. Thin and unbalanced.

Looks like a glass of grapefruit juice. Ruby, cloudy body. Wheat cereal malt with strong raspberry tartness. Dry and rather unappealing.

Very light beer with a pink lemonade appearance and a bottled-water raspberry flavor. Rerating this beer, I give it higher marks than previously--though it is still not one of the brewery’s better selections.

Sampled as Dad Watsons Ruby at Fremont Oktoberfest. Pours cloudy, the color of pink grapefruit juice. Light aroma of raspberry soda. Light body and carbonation, almost nothing in the taste. Dry finish. Effin near water.

On tap at The Ram Hotel, Portland. Cloudy copper with thin off white head. Smell of raspberry. This is awful. Fruit isn’t integrated, no malt, empty and rather pathetic. Raspberry syrup runs through it. Nasty

Draft at the Crystal Ball Room location. A hazy pinkish beer with no head. The aroma is sweet and dominated by raspberries. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of raspberries - somewhat artificial combined with notes of malt and wheat, leading to a dry finish. The body is thin. Not to my liking.

Tap at Mill Creek location; somewhat raspberry pop mid palate but very diluted; very thin to watery; hop aroma did not match lacking hop flavor; bartender stated this ruby is made with fresh raspberries and not an elixir (hence the water feel in my opinion); not enough fruit flavor to compensate; definitely shied me away from getting again. (#5)
