n 1985, McMenamins became the first brewery in the U.S.A. to legally use fruit in the creation of ales. While many other breweries have followed suit, we still make this Ruby exactly as we first did: Light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Over 55 pounds of hand-macerated, fresh, whole raspberries are used in every batch. Taste the original!

Aroma of fresh juicy raspberries. Appearance is not unlike a glass of pink grapefruit juice - cloudy and pink. Flavor is very thin - somewhat watery - slight raspberry flavor with a faint bitter finish. Tight carbonation. A very refreshing summer beverage, certainly not a hearty drink.

pale golden color with a touch of pink. white head. light ras aroma. less ras flavor but seems to add sweetness that balances with just a touch of bitterness. medium body but a little watery at the same time. maybe a fruit beer that a non-fruit beer person might like, a little. hot sunny rafting beer.

From a 22oz Bottle. Purchased at the Kennedy School, 7/7/07. Pours a somewhat hazy, pale gold color with peach hues and a thin layer of quickly dissipating, wispy white head. A big raspberry juice nose leaps out of the glass right away, but as it warms, it starts to fade, revealing a grainy malt base. Some apple yeast character noticeable. Light bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a gentle effervescence. Crisp, authentic raspberry flavors up front on the palate, but could use more intensity. This tastes like a raspberry Berliner Weiss sans the lactic acid. As such, the palate falls off quickly, leaving a light graininess to linger on the tongue.

Sample size draft. This beer avoids most fruit beer pitfalls - it’s not syrupy or overly sweet and the raspberry flavor is significant and well integrated into a crisp, refreshing beer.

Draught at the Markey Street pub. Nice fruity, raspberry nose. Salmon pink with lace. Fruity, wheaty flavor, a bit creamy. Crisp, not too sweet, refreshing though not so tasty. Dry, crackery malt finish. Decent.

Poured on draft at six arms brewery in Seattle. Tastes like a pile of flowers and a raspberry basket. Average at Best

Bottle at Craig’s. Pale amber, pinkish hue. Aromas of fruit and caramel. Taste does have a hint of raspberry to it, but not a lot. Mostly caramel. OK.
