Tap at the Six Arms. Dark brown/black beer, thin tan head. Aroma is fairly sweet with lots of roasty plummy malts, dark cherries. Nice milky aroma as well. Flavour is fairly sweet and chewy but not cloying. Dark cherry and plums. Roasty, but not astringent. Soft bitterness. A bit less complex than the porter, but still a very good stout.

Draught at White Eagle, Portland. Near black. Vague coffee aroma. Sweet with mellow, syrupy mouthfeel, some molasses are there. Harsh resiny finish. Simplistic.

Pours an almost pitch black color and it is topped by a frothy, almost creamy, three-finger thick light brown colored head. The aroma is an interesting mix between roasted notes and notes of smoke. I was not expecting the smokey notes at all, but they may just be contributed by the roasted malts used. The aroma is quite dry, and is completely dominated by the notes of coffee, a slight roasted acidity, and a malty chocolate note.

The taste has a certain fullness to it, but still remains light enough to be easily quaffed. There is a definite malt sweetness here, which, though not pronounced, accentuates notes of chocolate and something similar to malt balls. The finish is fairly long and dominated by roasted notes or darkly roasted grain and black coffee. This beer is quite nice and quaffable, I like how sweet malt character balances quite well with the roast character. This has lots of interesting flavor in each and every sip, so it is not something to be pounded, it is the type of beer that is quite nice to spend an evening over.

Solid black body, thick cocoa/tan head, fluffy and attractive. Nice. Bittersweet nose, rich notes of chocolate and hints of espresso. Very expressive aroma, quite consistent with the requirements of a good stout. Well done. Bright, fruity, sweet in the mouth, pleasing, but leaves the palate too soon. The taste, alas, does not follow through as impressively as the appearance and the aroma. Seems to come across as just an okay stout. Some darker tinges shine through, deeper flavors, a bit of maple and molasses...just a bit. Full-bodied, long, bittersweet finish, hefty malt, nicely roasted...a very easy to drink, fully accessible stout. Quite good.

Some of these beers would be nice if they would put some damn alcohol in them. Just typical, it is like every other stout I have had, with a little more roastiness and some syrupy chocolate flavors. Too dry in the finish.

Pours with a black body topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. It’s sweet yet sour and malty with a slight roastiness and a little coffee. Full bodied, smooth and a touch dry.
