MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Jun 10, 2005 Bottle. Malty, sweet liquorice aroma. Black colour, small head. Flavour is malty with a distinct liquorice flavour. A bit thin and not too interesting. Probably could have been fresher. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA May 23, 2005 Updated: May 25, 2005This is the first good micro I ever had. I went to a wedding in Oregon and the bride managed the Blue Moon. I fell in love with this beer so much that I bought a T-shirt and I never buy stupid t-shirts....though I’m all about free ones.
Sweeter notes than the typical stout more on the raisin/date side of things than choclate, but decently roasty and well balanced from malt fore to hop finish. My first micro-love. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA May 19, 2005 Tap at Brewpub in ... um ... I don’t know, there’s so many of these. Somewhat weak aroma, mostly chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor was mostly chocolate. And a little more chocolate. And some chocolate covered malts. It finishes dry and roasty. Nice enough. It was the best of the lot that night. maltdog (510), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 19, 2005 Sample at Dad Watson’s. Dark brown with ruby highlights. Dark molasses, buckwheat honey, and raisin bran aromas. Sweet , with mild chocolate, prune, and tar flavors. Medium bodied. jackamackson (127), USA Feb 26, 2005 nice black pour with a tan head. sorta roasty armoa. flavor is roasty, chocolatey, not very bitter, and kind of thin. average to above avg. stout. very drinkable though. rogueminded (41), Newport, Oregon, USA Feb 16, 2005 One of my favorite from this brewr. you can taste the roasted flavor, very dark, small touch of chocolate. Bitter taste, but doesn’t distract too much. I’ve enjoyed it over and over again. Hab40oz (242), Grants Pass, Oregon, USA Sep 15, 2004 Roasty, Dark, and rich, verry hoppy finish, bitter. Seems to be very flat at times which is only the fault of the brewers, could be a fantastic stout with the proper finishing. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic Sep 11, 2004 on tap in eugene. pretty mild stout certainly doesn´t live up to it´s name and there´s nothing doppelbockish about it alas. blackish, cocoa powder and prune aroma, smooth but light, quite a sweet, treacle finish
