Not overly thick but plenty of body. Nice amount of alcohol as well. Just a good above average slightly strong stout. A pleasure to see so close to my house. Will have to go back for a growler fill. risingsunzpr (14), Oregon, USA

These small batch brewers are artists to say the least. I love mcmenamins so much I married the love of my life at kennedy school and we enjoyed all of the beers the had to offer that night, the next day, and every winter since. alexanderj (2244), Chino Hills, California, USA

To me this was the best of the few that I tried. Oats and roasted malt in the flower, with just the slightest hint of chocolate. Quality. eyesolus (64), Mill Creek, Washington, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 7, 2009 Black, small light brown head. Smelled of light roasted malt and pencil lead. A little of the roasted flavors I expect in a stout, but otherwise pretty bland and chalky with a dry finish. hamsterglory (48), Bryan, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2009 great stout. my friend ben smuggled it to texas from oregon. maybe it was the anticipation that made the beer so big to me. the pour syrupped out a tarrish dark topped with a sandy encrusted brown head. beautiful stout: zero light no matter how the glass was held. aroma yielded huge chocolate and anise notes. i expected an espresso like flavor and was none too disappointed. the initial sip smoothed over my palate like fine iced coffee, mellowed out on the edges by chocolate and cream. i like this. pivo (2535), Germany
