COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as the darkest night, rich as the most decadent dessert, Terminator is for the true stout lover. This is a full bodied and flavor packed ale which draws it's robust complexity from kiln-baked specialty grains. Look for a wide array of toasted, chocolate, nutty and coffee-like flavors in every pint! The devoted swear by it, and it remains one of our top selling ales year after year. Many thanks to Baker for the bomber!.. I believe he said it was from 2006. Poured a healthy shade of deep brown with a short, swirly cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweet and darker chocolates over a bed of aged molasses and vanilla.. a little bit warm, but mostly aged and sweet. The flavor found slightly tart coffee malts throughout, with related bitterness long gone.. blended bakerís chocolate and molasses joined on the middle.. charred earth and slight smoke around.. finished with grainy coffee and molasses notes joined by campfire smoke. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. age broke this down a bit and it was likely grainier than it used to be.. for the most part, though, everything was melded together well and this was a tasty drink.

Enjoyed many times at various McMenamins locations. McMenamins scores points with clever labeling and trendy bars/hotels, etc. This is one of my favoirte NW stouts and the stand out from McMenamins, especially good on Nitro. Pours dark brown/black with tan head that is slightly creamy. Nice bit of lacing. Earthy roast coffee aroma and flavor. Slightly bitter but smooth with a sweet, creamy finish. So smooth it could be a session stout.

Sample at Thompson Brewery and Public House in Salem. This Stout is a dark brownish-black color with a medium light beige head that dissipates steadily. Grainy malt and roasted coffee aroma. Medium body with flavors of coffee, oats, malt and mild hops. The finish is dry with chocolate notes and a coffee aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Portland trip. Sampled on draft this beer poured a very dark brown color with a medium sized brown head. The aroma was very faint with touches of coffee and chocolate. The flavor was a touch roasty, bitter and dry but was vague overall. Medium dry finish. Medium body. Ok.

On tap at the Spar cafe. Pours black with a thick convex foam rubber-like tan head. Smooth and silky with a mild chocolate finish. This is very close to Boulevard stout. Has a perfect palate of a silk chocolate pie. Being dispensed on nitrogen smooths out any of the carbonation harshness. This is a mildly delicious beer.

McMenamins adds calories per pint to their descriptions? Gee, thanks. Pours black but barely any head and no lace. Aromas of cocoa and coffee but the chocolate dominates. Taste is more of the same but with some smoke. Palate a bit flat.

Straightforward flavor of roast from black barley and medium malt backbone. Pours into a pint glass a nice dark black with half an inch of head. A little bit of coffee, slightly creamy, good roastiness, finishes a touch sweet. Also had on Nitro with better than average results. Makes a killer ice cream float. Iíve experienced several versions of Terminator and some have been good and some disappointing. Although Iím a huge fan, Iíve found a fair bit of inconsistency with some of the McMenaminís properties as far as their brews along with their food. I donít know how much tinkering their brewers do with water chemistry, but there is a definite flavor difference between Terminator brewed in Washington State compared to Terminator brewed in Oregon. Still though, one of my favorite Stouts out of the Northwest.

A dark brown stout with a thin moka head. A light sweet chocolate aroma with cloying butterscotch notes. In mouth, a decent chocolate with some cherry notes, a bit of an oily mouthfeel, Ok, but no more. On tap at Six Arms, Seattle, Sept. 12 2009.

Thick and chewy - a nice contrast from the porter in my sampler. Black body with a thick head that sits thinly on top. Some rich coffee flavors to go along with the creamy roastiness.
