4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Well, you can say just about whatever you want about Terminator--there’s no ’recipe’ per se. Instead, the dozen or so brewers at McMenamins’ pubs get to put whatever spin on it they like. We all have a beer that ’turned’ us, though, and this is mine. It was the mid-80s and I was not yet 21 (corrupt barkeep). Back then, they called it a virtue that the beers had batch-to-batch variability, something I couldn’t imagine the Bud boys saying. And going from Bud to this--mind boggling. Plus, points should be given for the name, which is among the coolest beer names on earth.

Sampler from Boon’s Treasury. Black in color. Light roasted nose. Quite roasty. Fairly bitter with coffee and bitterness. Not much in the way of sweetness. Pretty solid, serviceable "stout" stout.

On tap @ McMenamins Barley Mill. Black in color with a khaki head. Sort of ashy and roasty. A decent bit of coffee and cocoa. Maybe some hints of smoke. The flavor is a little on the bitter side. Sort of a tootsie roll sweetness to it. Plenty of roasted malt and some coffee. Kind of thin.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Taster at Roseburg Station Pub. Appearance: finger tan head, brown color, cloudy. Aroma: molasses, roast, light chocolate. Palate: soft carbonation, oily texture, soft carbonation. Taste: sweet chocolate with light roast notes into light pine finish, very earthy peat undertones throughout. Overall, a bit too earthy and molasses-ey for me.

Finally, a decent beer is suppose. Pours dark, passes some light with ruby edges. Nose has coffee. Taste is full of black barley (see Guinness) light licorice, balance. Mouth lingers.
