The_Epeeist (872), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 6, 2008 22 oz bottle. Mahogany with a thick and sudsy light brown head that hangs around. Nose is rich chocolate, coffee and hay. Medium body with prominent carb give this a light feel in the mouth. Taste is bitter chocolate, grapes, hints of espresso and molasses. A very good classic stout. riversideAK (1444), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jul 1, 2008 Bottle from 46er3498. Thanks! Pours almost black with a lasting light brown head. Aroma is that of bittersweet dark chocolate, roast, burnt malts, earth, and wood. Ashy burnt malts, chocolate, bitter earth make up the majority of the flavor profile. A moderate lasting burnt ash flavor hangs around along with a mild astringency and a little sweetness. Light bodied for the style. jason (1457), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 25, 2008 Bottle. Poured a nice black body with thin head. Aroma is light chocolate, bubblegum. Flavor is coffee, licourice, cherry, bubblegum and chocolate. Ibrew2or3 (1571), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jun 2, 2008 Courtesy of Gillard. Pours deep darkness with lasting brown head. The aroma smells like a musty closet lined with redwood or cedar planks. There’s also some roasted malts and faint burnt malts with some dusty astringency rounding things out. The taste is roasty to solid burnt malts mixed with rich chocolate malts, malt astringency and faint dark fruity esters. Bungalo22 (207), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA May 19, 2008 Passing through and decided to stop into this brewpub. Had a few and ended with the stout. It was black and had a nice head with some really nice lacing. It had a roasty aroma with a little chocolate coming through. It tasted very smooth and creamy. The body wasn’t has heavy as I like in a stout but it was balanced and well made.
