3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
A very dry brown ale. Moderate malt and a short, dry finish. One of the least hopped McNeill's I have tried. A good session beer for late spring or early fall...not necessarily for summer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured a medium and cloudy brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Stronger toffee aroma with butterscotch and light nuts. Tastes of nuts, toffee, caramel, toasted and roasted malts. Thinner body. This one was OK - would make a decent session beer.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From a growler picked up at the brewery. Ther pour is a cloudy brown-amber with very little head. The lack of head may be due to the fact Iím trying it 24 hours after it was poured into the growler. The aroma is nutty and caramel and fairly pleasant. The taste is more on the bitter side but also malty and sweet. A nice brew.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A lightly hazed brown ale with a thin off white head. Light nutty malt aroma, with light British hops. In mouth, a nice nutty ale with roasted malts, a bit of lactic notes. Medium bodied. On tap at brewpub August 2 2009.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: AUG 8, 2004 Aug 01. Knockout nose on the newest (to my knowledge) in the ever-expanding McNeills repertoire. Huge raspberry/hops/flower aroma which hits hard in the flavor as well. I don't know if it's a brown ale at all, but I like it! Nice color, too, though as with their OTHER brown ale its too hoppy on the rear end for me. Maltiness strong enough on the tongue, but guys a
brown ale is supposed to go down SMOOTH. Still, overall, another winner from this great brewery.
July 03. Too bitter, too brackish, too much carbonation. Thin. Big dropoff from last sample. Well, the Kolsch made up for it.<p.
Aug 04: more of the same. One of McNeills weaker efforts...mediocre brown/pale, little fruitiness this year. Ehhh

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
22oz bottle: Pours to a mostly clear medium brown colored body with a large eggshell-light tan colored head. The aroma is light roast, caramel, mild toast, light nuttiness with hints of coffee floating about. The taste is mild roast, like a light coffee mixed with some lighter malts, mild floral hops hidden in the background, with some toast, lightly acidic grains, and not a whole lot else. Light-medium bodied, medium carbonated, finishes sticky, though not very sweet, with some dry toasted/roasted grain notes towards the end.

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2005 A boorish dry yeast presence evokes plant-like flour, or dusty DMS...These overpowering forces cast a ghoulish shadow on the roasty bitterness...Old cherry wine hiding in moldy cellar, threatened by the flying ashes...Considering other ratings for most of their low-gravity seasonal brews (with the Commodore 64 labels), this brewery seems to be having pretty serious bottling inconsistencies...

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pour is light brown with thin white head...smell is horrid...vegetable and butter...flavor is the same...I see no reason to be more descriptive...Iím glad Clark chugged half the growler 2 hours before one of the cooelst fests ever because I didnít have to look at it.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a dark copper with a thin, shot-lived ring of foam. Light caramel malt aroma. Very watery with lightly roasted character. Tastes like they only used half the malt they should've. Judging by the other ratings, perhaps I got a bad bottle.

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
BCTC growler. Pours a light clear brown minimal head. Aroma is DMS, cooked corn vegetable, cabbage and light diacetyl. Fruity sweet caramel malts, light nutty and more DMS- canned corn. Ech. Body was thin and watery- perfect for chugging.
