I am assuming this to be the "Dark". Got 2 mugs of about 1/2 dark brown, almost black beer and about 1/2 head. Mildly sweet, mildly roasted, light body and easy drinking. not bad.

not as bad as listed. Dark dark brown, firm head. Malty but watery, certainly drinkable but not very good.

The ’dark’ in McSorleys NYC, on a slightly riotous evening with the boys from Tulsa, OK. It’s not really a stout, more a smooth drinking dark beer with a pleasant roasty malt twang. Being served in two small glasses is a little unusual. Good session beer.

Well ,this one was the second i ordered at the bar,and yep ....they serve you 2 mugs of your choice at the same time.Well ,they told me that this one and the tan ale taste exactly the same and only differ on the color....wrong.This one has a more toasted-like kind of feel ,a little bit of raisin and clove ,very drinkable for a combination of two different beers,oh boy i wish i was there

On tap at McSorley’s Old Alehouse, New York NY on 29th July 2011. Dark brown with thick foamy creamy-white head. Quite basic flavourwise with roast malts and a hoppy/caramelly taste in-mouth. Grainy/zingy mouthfeel, and a fairly satisfying but shortlived bittersweet finish.

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2011 I think this is the "dark" beer at McSorley’s - maybe they can move this if I’m wrong. Dark mahogany brown pour with a lasting two finger light tan head. Earthy and roasty aroma with some hoppiness evident. Grainy and roasty earth notes with caramel and some anise on the flavor. Decent. Smooth on the mouthfeel with medium body and soft carbonation. A pretty average nebulous "dark" beer in my opinion. Drinkable at least.

I usually go for the "dark" at McSorleys. This is surprisingly good on tap. Dark in color with a big foamy head. Aroma is sweet and malty and flavor is also nice and malty. Simple but flavorful and refreshing for a dark.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 shigadeyo (2400) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - JUL 27, 2009
12/15/2007: McSorley’s Black and Tan has a clear, deep mahogany color with ruby highlights and is topped by a thin and frothy tan-colored head. The aroma contains dark European malts, some slight fruit notes, and a hint of butterscotch. This beer is slightly dry and has a light molasses and chocolate flavor. Over all it goes down smoothly and is not bad.
12 fl. oz. bottle (85% stout, 15% lager). Rating #77 for this beer.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark brown color with a minimal tan head. Aroma is very light and subtle with some roasted malt notes present. Flavor is lightly sweet at the start with some roasted malt notes but goes to a slightly fruity middle with a roasted and burnt malt finish. Watery.

a bit of spice anise pepper and licorice though the flavor is too weak. dark brown and flavor of malt with barely anything else it is a touch sweet though just sugary. finish is of root and not bad as well as appropriately bitter but again too weak. good when first sipped it lessens in interest as you continue. light and almost like a cola but still acceptable as i suppose good for winter.
