Black appearance with a nice off white head. Aroma is a little malt and slightly sour with very light coffee notes. Flavor is a little sour with very slight malt and minor coffee flavor. Aftertaste is a little like milk, and the aftertaste isn’t wonderful. Not horrible, but I probably wouldn’t pick it up again.

Drank on St Patty’s day in Chicago 2012 -- A pretty good black lager, pleasant color, aroma, flavor. Nothing crazy good, but solid. Irish Pub beverages for sure.

Transfer from BA review on 10-21-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a deeper brown colored beer with a two finger tan head. The head faded rather fast to leave a lighter level of lacing. Smell – The smell is heaviest of roasted malt as well as some aromas of molasses as well as a light herbal hop smell. Taste – The taste starts out heaviest of roasted malt. A light caramel/brown sugar sweetness is upfront, but as the taste advances further it fades more and more. More toward the end some hop flavors as well as a licorice flavor come to the tongue giving a lightly sweet and rather pleasant aftertaste on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter side with a carbonation level that is average. The thinner body could use a boost, but other than that it’s OK. Overall – Quite nice and easy to drink with some decent roast and malt flavors. Not bad.

dark brown pour, tan head. Nose is chocolate malt. Bittersweet. Middle is smooth roasted grain, hint of molasses. Finish is roasted malt. Better of the two McSorley’s beers by far

Draught from the place. Dark pour duh. Hints of nuttiness and malt. Goes down quick because that’s what they want.

Bottle pour nearly opaque dark brown with garnet hues. Nose caramel, light soy sauce, slight vegetal. Taste light roast and coffee, minimal sweet malt, no bitterness. Very light roast on the finish. This was a 2 year old bottle, and perhaps past it’s prime.

The body has a dark brownish color with a slight reddish hue. There is some visible carbonation that flows up to the tall tan head. The head had very good retention and lacing. There is a lightly roasted character and sweet malted barley with just a hint of hops. The flavor has some slight roasted coffee notes with sweet bready and roasted malt notes. Hop flavor is light and brings some mineral/leafy notes to the finish. The finish is rather clean with roasted flavors and hop bitterness fading quickly. The palate is a smooth medium body with just the right amount of carbonation to help clean the palate.

Rated on 10-13-2010 (Bottle) This beer when poured displays a medium sized very, very fizzy tan head that mostly diminishes, semi-transparent/semi-opaque reddish brown body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is roasted malt and caramel. The taste is lightly acidic, roasted malt and chocolate. The palate is smoth and thin. This is a light-medium bodied beer. This beer is easy to drink due to the thin texture. There is not a lot going on with this beer. It is one of those "take it or leave it" type of beer.

3/16/2010. From bottle. Poured black with a tan head. Roasted malt aromas with dark fruit and caramel. Very yeasty flavors which dominated too much. I didn’t really care for this one.
