3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Oak Tree. Would love to be doing this in the Old Ale House! Pours black with a foamy tan head. Light dark malt aroma, perhaps with a hint of chocolate. Med body/frizzy carb. Flavor is sweet dark malt, maybe a hint of chocolate, and there’s enough bitter to keep it bearable. Ok. But not the world’s best schwarzbier. My past impression is that this brewery isn’t overly generous with ingredients. Note: The bottle says Latrobe, but that brewery isn’t overly generous either.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled. Poured very deep brown with a dense, good-lookin’ tan head. The aroma picked up sweet, lightly syrupy black malts and a touch of treacle.. just a hair too sweet overall, but it was highly approachable. The flavor was also on the sweet side, with lightly-toasted black and molasses throughout.. some roasty residual sugars on the finish.. again not bad. Lighter-bodied, grainy, and dry on the palate.. OK feel and flow.. very drinkable stuff.
