From a 12 fl. oz. bottle marked 051809-1613022. The pour is very black with a one-finger tan head that diminishes fast. The aroma has this sort of licorice, smokey, raisony mixture to it and also very sweet. I couldn’t put my finger on it but it really had a nice aroma. Medium mouthfeel. The taste is a bit like licorice, malts, and firewood (not that I eat firewood). It ends with this nice hoppy sensation in the background. I found this to be one of tastiest beers I have had in a while. I must have totally different taste buds from previous raters.

Really good, easy drinking lager. A little bit on the burnt taste, with some nice coffee notes and similar in flavor to Guinness Extra Stout. A bit lighter in body.

rampmaster (642) - Alden, New York, USA - JUL 20, 2009
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: The body has a dark brownish color with a slight reddish hue. There is some visible carbonation that flows up to the tall tan head. The head had very good retention and lacing. Smell: There is a lightly roasted character and sweet malted barley with just a hint of hops. Taste/Mouth: The flavor has some slight roasted coffee notes with sweet bready and roasted malt notes. Hop flavor is light and brings some mineral/leafy notes to the finish. The finish is rather clean with roasted flavors and hop bitterness fading quickly. The palate is a smooth medium body with just the right amount of carbonation to help clean the palate. Notes: Overall this is a very enjoyable and very drinkable black lager.

Nice and smooth black lager. Chocolate aroma and taste. Not very hoppy but good drinkable carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very dark tasting beer. Although it is an American brew, you can’t help but feel like an 80 year old Irishman with a heart pumping beer instead of blood.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of cascading foam finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a black brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The aroma was mildly smoky musty soft hops and dark malt. The thick mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish. The thick lagerish flavor contained notes of mild smoke mild hops and black malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Bottled: Pours a very dark brown with a tan head that dissipates very quickly. Aroma has nutty and roasted malt smells about it. Taste has chocolate notes and a little bit of coffee flavor from the roasted malts. A touch more flavor and character puts this one step ahead

Pours dark black with a thick, white head. It has a sweet, malty aroma. The taste is of dry, burnt malt that is reminiscent of over-toasted bread. It has a thick mouthfeel, and the burnt-toast taste is predominant. No malt sweetness. Great black lager!

A good smooth black lager found it at the Tropicana. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
