3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draft at the Ale House in Amesbury. Aroma was strongly of chocolate with a foundation of roasted barley. Black with a thin tan head. Taste was almost completely of sweet chocolate with little else to attend to. Some roasted barley and bread hints, but not much. Very silky on tongue. Avergae finish. Tasty but not terribly complex.

[2836-20100414] 330mL bottle. Pungent bitter hot chocolate cocoa powder aroma. Clear, dark brown red body with a quick foamy off-white head. Sweet hot chocolate powder malt flavour with a long smooth cocoa finish. Medium-full body. A little overly sweet but interesting in that "Hey! This is super chocolatey!" kind of way.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2010-04-14. Very dark brown body with a modest tan head. 3+ Aroma of cocoa/Ovaltine is reminiscent of other chocolate beers. 6+ Flavour is similar, cocoa or hot chocolate powder character up front, light bitterness helps keep it balanced, muted dry cocoa lingers in the aftertaste. Sweet middle. 6+ Average plus palate is under carbonated which makes the overall impression heavier, not in a charming way. Decent, but gets a bit cloying after a bit. Best enjoyed in small quantities. Bottle at Volo, Toronto

Dark brown body. On draft at hopcat. Aroma of milk chocolate, light coffee, nuts and cream. Flavor is similar to a milk stout. Thinner body than expected, but very drinkable. Milk chocolate, marshmallow, and caramel. Not bad

330 ml bottle from a private order. pours clear brown with a small tan head. minimal carbonation. aroma of chocolate, pale malt and nuts. the flavour is more chocolate centered with a decently complex malt profile. hopping is there to balance but isnt really there in the flavour or aroma. pretty nice session style brew.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at home. Dark brown body with short tan head. Nose of lots of chocolate. Really nice. Taste is also chocolatey, although not as much as nose. Some caramel and coffee too. Nice and smooth. Gets spicier towards the finish. Enjoyable.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from bottle, tasted with five others. Group decision was that the nose was amazingly redolent of Tootsie Roll. Appearance was dark, but not as dark as I expected; there was very little head and no lace. Taste was lactic and dry, with a chocolate note reminiscent of Dutch-process powdered cocoa or Canfield’s Diet Chocolate Soda (which I like, so that wasn’t a problem). Palate was low in carbonation and finished quickly. Overall, not bad, but Rogue’s Chocolate Stout still kicks its butt.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, thanks for sharing dEnk! Clear brownish red pour, thin off-white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of creamy cacao, alcohol and some fruits. Flavor is fruity, very bitter, with cacao and caramel. Bitter finish, medium carbonation. Nice brew.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled 33cl. Ordered from www.bierzwerg.de. Dark brown with a tall head. Grainy aroma which is reminiscent of Hershey’s or Cadbury’s- at least not swiss chocolate ;-) The taste is a lot better. Wonderful chocolate components. Good lacework. Salty. Complex on the swallow. Great salty finish which reminds me of chocolate powder.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A - Deep cola brown, not quite black, with light ruby and brown hues at the edges. Adequate sized, foamy beige head. A little below average retention, but a fair amount of lacing left.
S - A lot of smooth chocolate smell. Also strong hints of vanilla and a touch of coffee. Some other sweet dark smells are in the background. Very nice enjoyable smell that vaguely reminds me of a chocolate milkshake or chocolate syrup.
T - Roasted malt taste and bitterness. A good amount of coffee and chocolate, but not as much chocolate as the nose/name would suggest, but still a good amount of chocolate. Also hints of vanilla. In the middle to the finish of the sip some tang and more bitterness comes out. Dark cherry and some earthy and floral hops come in with that finish.
M - Medium body with decent carbonation. Fairly creamy and smooth.
D - Pretty good, the mouthfeel is smooth and easy to drink. The flavors balance the rich, slight sweetness at the beginning with the bitter and slightly tart finish.
Notes: Not as chocolaty as the nose/name, but still a decent amount of chocolate flavor. Nice porter that is easy to drink and fairly balanced.
