COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cold fermented and lagered. Only available in 330ml bottles.
"Porter style Ale. Chocolate and beer! Are we Mad? We’d rather say passionate. We marry the soothing flavour of this complex malt barley grist with a hint of dark chocolate. This is a beer for your more self-indulgent moments. Great for lazy afternoons or long evenings, it is best served chilled with your feet up, watching the sun go down. Like we say – chilled."
"A silky-smooth suppertime beer, created using dark malts and chocolate. Pronounced vanilla notes fuse the chocolate and malts together to give a rich, warming, flavour that also works well as a complement to fruity desserts, summer puddings and autumn berries."

Creedence (282) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - APR 22, 2013
330ml bottle at Porterhouse Cork. Pours a beautiful dark brown, bordering on black with a thin but very long-lasting beige head. Aroma is a nice blend of oak, coffee and rich chocolate. Taste is a light burnt bitterness and a strong sugary sweetness. Comparable to a very sugary mocha. There are some redeeming qualities in the chocolate flavour, but it leans a bit more on the chocolate syrup side rather than chocolate malt. Thick and overcarbonated in the mouthfeel, leaves a syrupy chocolate aftertaste. Rests quite heavily on the stomach too, I found. Hugely disappointed with this one, I liked my previous Meantime (IPA) and I generally like chocolate stouts, but this just did not do it for me.

500 ml bottle as “Meantime Chocolate Porter” bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Clear, deep blackish brown colour; Razor-thin head and residual soapy light-beige foam which fades in 10 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and no carbonation; Very fragrant aroma of roasted dark malt, with hazelnut cream, coffee, strong nuts, very light tartness, milk chocolate, sugar, caramel, waffles and light grass; Mid to light sweet taste of dark malt, with strong roast and nuts, faint smoke, caramel, toffee, black coffee, light cream, light molasses notes, biscuits, strong lemon, strong bitter hops and grass; Mid to light body, quite slick palate; Mouth feel is very roasty and nutty dark malt, fair body but slick. Despite the sweet hazelnut nose, taste is mostly roasty and hop-bitter - caramel, cream and coffee are moderate, chocolate taste is very light, and almost sugar-free. Good… Hoppiness is light grass in nose, strong lemon and grass in taste. Expressive and strong bitterness for an abrupt bitter and roasty finish; Fairly dry after taste. Bitter and very roasty to mouth.

Comments: This one has very creamy and sweet hazelnut chocolaty aroma, yet its taste is strong roast malt and bitter hops. Well-made, restrained and very English, it’s pretty enjoyable but I would like it better if tastes thicker, creamier with a little more sweetness. Drinkable.

330 ml bottle. Pours dark brown with decent brown head. Intense aromas of roasted malts and chocolate (unsure whether dark or milk) accompanied by a strong chocolate and coffee taste. Reasonably bitter but smooth and subtle finish.

Bottle, 330 ml. Pours very dark reddish-brown with around two fingers of rather foamy head. Fair bit of stringy lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate (unsure whether dark or milk), a bit of coffee, a bit of vanilla, and something of a woody edge. Tastes quite stongly of chocolate and coffee alongside the roasted malts, with again a bit of a woody, earthen edge. Underneath this is a few sour notes of citrus and perhaps apple, adding a little bit of bit. Body seems around medium, and carbonation is very soft and barely noticeable. No real bitterness to be found other than on the edge of the roasted malts and the coffee in the finish, and the aftertaste is rather cereal-esque and feels slightly grainy for some reason. Possibly the most potent chocolate flavour I’ve experienced in a beer, and yet it doesn’t seem overbearing, which suggests good craftsmanship to me!

Bottle at home, from ABM, 02/06/14. Dark mahogany brown with a well appointed light tan covering that dissipates a little then stays for the show. Nose is roast malt, earthy cocoa powder, dark berry fruit, light charring, Bourbon biscuits. Taste comprises quite a prominent chocolate flavour, roast malt, brown bread, brown sugars. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with light roast and a sweet rinse. Ok chocolate driven porter.

Bottle (330 ml). Courtesy of Florian, thanks! Dark brown with a small persistent beige head and little lacing. Aroma is of chocolate, milky sweetness, light fruits and espresso notes. Taste is also of milky sweetness (moderately sweet). dark chocolate, light fruitiness and roasted malt. Light body. Almost watery. Moderate carbonation. Silky mouthfeel. Not a whole lot of complexity here. And limited drinkability because of the sweetness and the mouthfeel. It’s not awful, but it’s not even near to be enjoyable.
