COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cold fermented and lagered. Only available in 330ml bottles.
"Porter style Ale. Chocolate and beer! Are we Mad? We’d rather say passionate. We marry the soothing flavour of this complex malt barley grist with a hint of dark chocolate. This is a beer for your more self-indulgent moments. Great for lazy afternoons or long evenings, it is best served chilled with your feet up, watching the sun go down. Like we say – chilled."
"A silky-smooth suppertime beer, created using dark malts and chocolate. Pronounced vanilla notes fuse the chocolate and malts together to give a rich, warming, flavour that also works well as a complement to fruity desserts, summer puddings and autumn berries."

(330ml bottle from Waitrose) Pours dark brown/black with a cream head and healthy lacing. Taste of caramel malts with notes of pleasing mocca/chocolate on the palate. Impressive stuff from my local Brewer.

Clear liquid. Looks like black watery coffee. Big beige head. Strong chocolate aroma, taste of chocolate with 45-50% of cocoa. Medium body, light to medium carbonation, medium to strong bitterness, chocolate aftertaste. Good but a bit thin. Could be better.

Rich chocolate and caramel aroma. Dark brown with thick beige head. Sweet taste with chocolate prominent balanced by nice toasted malt bitterness. Palate thinner than I expected. Some alcohol warmth lingers at back of throat.

Gurthnar (1629) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - AUG 14, 2014
Bottle from Seoul Plaza. Aroma has nice rich dark malt character, lots of toffee, chocolate. Clear dark colour. Rather small head, but that may be due to quite low temperature at pour. Tastes lets all the sweetness shine, mainly lots of toffee and chocolate, but has a definite bitterness standing behind the bold flavours. One can even find notes of English hop character in the finish. Rewarding beer, I like it very much.

Aroma: massive milk chocolate, caramel. Appearance: dark, medium beige head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: sweets intensive, massive chocolate again, light toasted malts, average-long finish, medium to heavy body. Overall: nice Baltic Porter, living up to what it says on the label - massive chocolate. Bottle at the Old Brewery, Greenwich.

500 ml bottle as “Meantime Chocolate Porter” bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Clear, deep blackish brown colour; Razor-thin head and residual soapy light-beige foam which fades in 10 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and no carbonation; Very fragrant aroma of roasted dark malt, with hazelnut cream, coffee, strong nuts, very light tartness, milk chocolate, sugar, caramel, waffles and light grass; Mid to light sweet taste of dark malt, with strong roast and nuts, faint smoke, caramel, toffee, black coffee, light cream, light molasses notes, biscuits, strong lemon, strong bitter hops and grass; Mid to light body, quite slick palate; Mouth feel is very roasty and nutty dark malt, fair body but slick. Despite the sweet hazelnut nose, taste is mostly roasty and hop-bitter - caramel, cream and coffee are moderate, chocolate taste is very light, and almost sugar-free. Good… Hoppiness is light grass in nose, strong lemon and grass in taste. Expressive and strong bitterness for an abrupt bitter and roasty finish; Fairly dry after taste. Bitter and very roasty to mouth.

Comments: This one has very creamy and sweet hazelnut chocolaty aroma, yet its taste is strong roast malt and bitter hops. Well-made, restrained and very English, it’s pretty enjoyable but I would like it better if tastes thicker, creamier with a little more sweetness. Drinkable.

330 ml bottle. Pours dark brown with decent brown head. Intense aromas of roasted malts and chocolate (unsure whether dark or milk) accompanied by a strong chocolate and coffee taste. Reasonably bitter but smooth and subtle finish.
