Our first formulation of this beer was the first UK brewed beer to carry the Fairtrade logo, and although we have reformulated it to create an even better blend better the malt and roast coffee flavours and can no longer get enough coffee in each bottle to qualify for Fairtrade status, we are still using the same Faitrade Araba Bourbon beans from Rwanda’s Abuhuzamugambi Co-operative. At the Meantime Brewing Co we love flavour, so it wasn’t exactly difficult for us to see how the scents and aromas of coffee and barley would create a perfect match like just like mint and lamb, toffee and banana, peaches and cream, peanut butter and jam. Serve lightly chilled with as many chocolate truffles as your conscience allows.

It was fantastic beer for me! Falled in love with first sip! Aroma didn’t promise something special, but first sip... mmm... So balanced- not dry, not too sweet. I love coffee!

330ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, mahogany colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Coffee powder aroma on minimally roasty, dark malty basis. Taste is slightly sweet dark malty, coffee notes, some vanilla. a touch of toffee. Simple and tasty.

Bottle 330ml. Pours a dark red-brown color and medium beige head (some lacing). Soft carbonation, light/medium body. Aroma of roasted malts and a little bit of coffee. As the name says - you can taste the roasted coffee. Pretty much what I expected. Smooth mouthfeel. Slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Overall: very nice, could have another one :)

Bottle from Beers of Europe [220115]
Very dark ruby, frothy beige head, some lacing
Aroma - Didn’t like this at all. Odd, awful earthy coffee. Some odd roasted nut in there.
Taste - Dark sweet malts, but that awful coffee roast just mucks it all up, some dark fruits, odd nutty roast, bit vegetal, no, this is yuck
Palate - Soft carb, medium thin body, fairly sweet. Finish a bit dry, getting a hint of espresso, but coffee is still poor
Overall - A few sips of this and it was thrown out. The coffee in here is absolutely terrible. In fact the beer is just awful. Worst coffee beer I’ve had. 90 on rateBeer here? ... more like 9 to my palate ... yuck

Enormous head - maybe a bit much. Flavor is strong coffee with hints of chocolate. Very smooth.

Aroma: roasted dark malts, milk chocolate, cherries, rum like notes, weak coffee notes. Appearance: clear copper color, thin beige head. Taste: medium bitterness (herbs), roasted dark malts, cherries in chocolate, coffee, walnut, quite dry and balanced. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, smooth roasted finish. Overall: Excellent beer, well-balanced, intriguing combination of chocolate, cherries and coffee.

Meantime Coffee Porter has a medium, beige head, a dark brown appearance, minimal lacing, and visible tan yeast chunks floating about. The aroma is of lime, turned or semi-rancid ale, and cheap, off-brand coffee. Taste is the same, with a unpleasant acidic bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and slimy, and Meantime Coffee Porter finishes semi-dry and sour. RJT

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe (£1.85): Great stuff from Meantime here, a very nice coffee porter that was full of flavour from the start with a lots of coffee present throughout, you wouldn’t really expect anything else though given the name. The beer proved an easy one to finish with a nice touch of bitterness right at the end to see things out.
