ubamartian (151), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA Nov 3, 2007 Bottle with an English pint glass, at 44 degrees F. This just sounded too good, it was described to me as a REAL COFFEE flavored porter. Meaning, you can tell it’s coffee and not chocolate that smells somewhat like coffee. So I bought one. Pours a deep dark brown leaning towards red. A beautiful light mocha colored, frothy head which leaves beautiful lacing. The aroma... I am thinking I’m in a really yuppie coffee bar. Unsweetened Chocolate, REAL Coffee (yes you can tell!), and hints of vanilla, mint and malts. This is one of those aromas that says... "DRINK ME NOW! I REALLY TASTE GOOD". The first sip was excellent. Pure Coffee, and Chocolate, with the malts, and a slight alcohol. There were also hints of vanilla and to a lesser degree mint as well. The feeling was not thick, not thin, but just right. The lingering coffee and chocolate along with the warming from the alcohol are perfectly blended. The finish is a bit dry, leaving you wanting another sip. Next time I am craving a Mocha Frappacino, I am stopping at the liquor store instead! DEFINITELY a stock item in my beer cellar! guyinchicago (242), marengo, Illinois, USA Apr 19, 2008 black and bold. coffee flavors abound in this cool little bottle very nice clean and smooth easy drinking thevulcan (16), England Mar 14, 2005 I adored this beer...I was quite dubious when I bought it, worried that it wouldnt live up to the expectation of two of my biggest passions fused together, however it was a most enjoyable beer, right from opening the bottle and the amazing aroma of fresh coffee, to the last drip. Definatly worth a try! eaglefan538 (2079), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Sep 26, 2007 Short bottle, 330ml? Pour was a light brown color, not a lot of cloudiness, lighter looking than I anticipated, head was small, lacing not impressive. Aroma was nice coffee over slight toffee, a touch of bitter astringency suspected. Yet, the flavor bursted through smoothly, gently, nicely, and improved until the very last sip, a wonderfully flavored porter, so inviting for the warmer evening I consumed this on in the Fall, not thick and heavy coffee imperial stout like, just smooth, moderately bodied, lactic coffee flavors, silky mouthfeel with plenty of carbonation to stimulate the taste buds, a light grass hop zip (ever so slight) to keep this thing almost refreshing.... well, as refreshing as a nice cup of coffee could be anyway. Chocolate, very light roast, and toasted nuts support the main coffee flavors. Superb! kramer (1888), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 25, 2006 12 oz bottle, via sk8viking. Pitch black pour with a tight creamy dark brown head. Great retention and the head just clings to the glass beautifully. Aroma is espresso roast coffee with coffee, coffee, and more coffee. OK, so there’s a little more to it than that, but you get the idea. A little dry yeastiness, some burnt malt, and a hint of smoke as well. The flavor is a little more complex, but again, lots of coffee. Chocolate and black patant malt, lots of roast, and a hint of yeast on the finish. Mouthfeel is fairly light bodied with nice fine bubbled carbonation. The tail end of the finish is somewhat oily. This beer is awesome! The best pure coffee beer ever. I love that this is not an Imperial stout or a Porter with some coffee, but a beer focused squarely on coffee. If you really love coffee, get ahold of a bottle of this.
