Meantime Hospital Porter (called Naval College Old Porter in the US) is made in the same fashion. 24 months oak aging in used Bruichladdich Octomore barrels has lent a woody, intensely peaty smokiness to our Ďstockí Porter, which we have blended with a younger beer. This latter adds vitality to the brew. Hospital Porter one beer that is best not over-chilled, and, like the original Porters, will mature with age. This beer has only been available on draught at the Old Brewery at the Old Royal Naval Hospitalóuntil now. We have done our best to ensure that the beer would be recognizable to

Draught @ Taproom no307. Dark brown with small foamy beige head, faint coffee aroma, thin body, little coffee beans taste, low carbonation, disappointing sweetish finish. This is the third Meantime beer iíve tried in a row and they are all sweet and sticky! Whatís wrong with the Brits?

7.0% version, clearly intended for the US market. Thanks so much Meantime for allowing us a look in on the action, you are too kind! Clear deep amber - brown beer, tidy cream - tan colour head. Palate is smooth and a little crisp. Dry malts, trace of dark chocolate and very mild coffee. Light lactose. Little paper. Mild fruits before a light dry finish. Very bland, not even getting any peat. Poor show all round from Meantime.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe, under its US name. 7.0%. Pours dark ruby brown, thick cream head. Aromas of iodine, liquorice, coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is more chocolate, light whisky, woody finish, and a little thin.

Taster at Jungle Jimís Barrel-Aged Beer Bash 2015. From a bottle. Mostly clear brown slight red color. Thin ring of off-white head. Few bits of lace. Dark fruit, some chocolate in the nose. A lot of earthiness in the flavor, as well as a bit of an interesting scotch character. Some good cocoa nib. Moderate-plus bitter taste, light to moderate sweet, light dry finish. Medium to bigger body. Kind of crisp, lighter carbonation, mild chewiness. A very solid english barrel-aged porter. Good complexity. I prefer the American way of doing it though, as I usually do...

Naval College version. From notes. Tasted in December 2012 from a capped 750mL bottle. Pours dark cola brown with an average tan head that leaves average lace. The nose is roasted, nutty dark coffee, some smoke, and dry molasses. The flavor is very dry and roasted with the same nutty coffee, touch of smoke, and molasses. The body is medium with light carbonation and a long roasted bitter finish.

330ml bottle, as Naval College Old Porter. Pours a dark mahogany, with a thin brown head. Roasted, oaky, quite smoky aroma, caramel, iodine, chocolate, coffee, licorice. Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Roasted, woody taste, smoke, peat, licorice, iodine, coffee beans, vanilla. Surprisingly lean for an 8% porter. A bit more body would indeed have supported the wood flavours better. Not bad, but no Hallelujah moment. (2014-12-30)

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2014 Bottled. A kinda grimy beer... a bit incoherent . 8.% so good boost . Itís a pretty earthy ,muddy kinda beer ,either dirty hops or malt. Itís not got roasted notes or chocolate Iíd expect in a Baltic Porter.

75cl bottle from M&S. Poured a very dark brown, with a large, beige head. Aroma of rich, dark malt, oak, molasses and spice. Good mouth feel. Big roast malt flavour, with dates, spice and cocoa. Dark chocolate in the finish, with coffee and burnt malt.

Smooth porter with a pleasant taste, but it has no bite to it. Not bad, but not memorable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
