| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 30, 2008 Wow! Great beer! Got this 750 ml cork finished bottle in Miami Beach a couple months ago. Poured with a big foamy frothy head and some lace. Hazy medium amber color. Nose was grassy, citrusy, a bit hoppy and malty. Nice and bitter on the tongue in the mouth that perfectly goes with the champagne carbonation. Great mouthfeel. Excellent beer. Nice change of pace from the amped American IPAs. A bit boozy warmth there. Good burps too. Finish leaves me smiling. Wot a beer. Wish I had more. talon1117 (620), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2008 The beer pours a sparkling clear, orangey-amber color with a white, fizzy, mostly full head which diminishes quickly to a very small layer with minimal lace. Nose is lightly sweet with caramel malts and red apple skins and balanced by some nice hop notes which are slightly citrusy, moderately herbal (maybe rosemary?), and lightly earthy. Flavor is similar with a great malt backbone of sweet caramel, nutty notes, and the same red apple skins. Hop notes filter in with faint citrus, lots of earthy and herbal tones (rosemary, thyme), and some spicy notes of white pepper. Palate is medium, lively, and somewhat crisp. Finishes still lightly sweet with the moderate bitterness diminishing a bit noting some similar spice notes, caramel, and some dry, earthy notes. Quite a switch from the American IPA’s I am used to, but more like an American pale ale to me. Lots of complex notes in this one with great earthy and herbal notes. The sweet, red apple skin notes were a bit too dominant, but aside from that, a really good beer. hayduke (1636), Eureka, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2008 Very interesting this claims to be an authentic IPA. After so many over the top West Coast IPAs this one made a believer out of me that this was the way is was supposed to be done. From a 750 ml C&C bottle, this poured a slightly cloudy amber color with a nice fat off-white head that left glue-like lacing rings. Very attractive. Nose of caramel malts and some grassy hops. Very smooth and rich mouthfeel. Flavor is of citrus and pine hops, and the finish is nice and bitter. One of the easiest drinking IPAs I have seen. GAManiac (1147), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Pours a hazy golden amber with a large fluffy white head that hangs around for a while and leaves decent lacing.
The aroma is definitely on the sweeter side of things with a generous caramel malt backbone. There are also some interesting lighter fruit aroma, like apples and pears. There were hints of earthy hops, but certainly not dominant.
The taste is much like the aroma and very sweet for an IPA with only hints of the citrus hops up front. Again, I got what tasted like apples and a caramel sweetness throughout. There was a slightly roasted character to the malts as well.
The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with good carbonation and with very little bitterness.
I enjoyed this beer but got almost no hop presence at all. I may revisit this one... daknole (2891), Plantation, Florida, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 15, 2008 IPA? This beer tasted just like a scotch ale to me. Sweet aroma and sweet on the tongue with the tiniest bit of hops...weird stuff and not in a good way. Snojerk321 (1943), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2008 Bottle from BevMo Mission Valley. Pours a mostly clear burnt orange with a fluffy off white head that left great lacing. Nose was sweet with some herbal hoppiness and some pink lady apples.....thats what I got anyways. Flavor was sweet with some some bitterness in the backdrop. bluevegie (2185), Perth, Australia
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 27, 2008 Sunburnt gold body with a decent head and some good lacing. Good English hops on the nose, good balance in the taste noticeable hops once again but good malt support, alcohol not really noticeable til I finished the 750ml bottle.
