elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Oct 23, 2008 From bomber, shared with a friend. Pours an amber-gold, with a small head. Aroma of malt and fruity hops. Although my memory of this beer was not as sharp due to impending intoxication, I recall noting how “butter”, “earth” and “malt” were three adjectives that come to mind about this beer. I am guessing that in Britain they don’t produce IPAs with the flowery, citrusy character as they do in America. This beer had a smooth, almost creamy palate, with notes of ripe peach, dates, malt, caramel, and earth soil. A good blend, but I am partial to American-style IPAs. kenbeer (46), , Australia Oct 23, 2008 A beautiful bottle with a beautiful beer inside. Ambe/orane coloured & solid head. Some nice fruity hop flavours (although not as big as I hoped ) with a wonderfully rich and bitter beer benaeath. Next time I have a curry this will be the beer for me ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA Oct 20, 2008 Good packaging. Pours a cloudy orange with a nice citrus/alcohol aroma. Good balance, but a lot of carmel and honey. Interesting IPA, probably not what you will expect from the style. Worth a try, even if it could use more hops. WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 19, 2008 Yes! An English IPA / British IPA, not an American IPA. Drinking with my nephew and his initial reaction was "this is not an IPA." My reaction was West Kent and Fuggles, this must be mean time as in Greenwich mean time. Malts of course, and hops aplenty, though not PNW / American. Good dark orange, good white head. I"m trying to be fair ... no doubt this is what a Bass once was like ... but I really do prefer American IPAs now. CelticBrew (676), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Oct 12, 2008 Poured from 750 ml bottle, an opaque dark orange, forming a medium sized foamy head. Aroma of malts, ocean water, hops and citrus. Flavour much of the same, spicy malt bombed, a very interesting IPA from my friends in the UK, recommended beer. chicagodri (1020), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 5, 2008 Interesting IPA. Pours a little hazy cooper with a thin off white head. Mild aroma, not anywhere near the amount of hops I would expect. Small citrus flavor and aroma. It is a really smooth IPA though. Interesting. Maybe I got an old bottle since the hops seemed really mellow. baggio (195), norrtälje, Sweden Sep 30, 2008 Pours a Orange / Copper color with a 1cm lace that looks very appealing.
Smells of citrus, yeast and hops. Faint hint of malt too.
Taste is very balanced. There’s a distinct taste of hops and malt and again
the citrus, vanilla and flowers. Very complex and very good.
Mouthfeel is smooth with low carbonation along with some dryness and bitterness which lingers there for quite a bit.
Wow! A very interesting IPA with silkysmooth taste and perfect amount
of hops. Dangerously easy to drink, beware.
joekfsu (138), Boardman, Ohio, USA Sep 25, 2008 25.6 oz bottle. Pours a dense pale orange with 3 cm white head that is slowly diminishing. Aroma of fruit and hops, a hint of something malty. Initial flavor of sour apple and citrus. Ends hoppy and with some fruit flavors. Light to medium body, limited lacing, moderate carbonation, and some alcohol noted, especially with warming. Overall, a very different IPA than I was expecting, very good, kind of champagne like.
