georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA Apr 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a thick and frothy off white head. Aroma was hops and citrus, oranges and flowers. Taste was bitter and hoppy with an unpleasant aftertaste. It was a bit too carbonated. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Apr 18, 2008 750 ml. bottle, a nice smooth IPA that is much more subdued than a typical US IPA, very nice hop taste with good finiish sfhodense (554), Odense NØ, Denmark Apr 18, 2008 Bottle. Cloudy amber beer, with beige head. Aroma is mild hoppy and malt. Flavour is mild hoppy. Nice beginners IPA. ironchefscott (341), portland, Oregon, USA Apr 15, 2008 a very nice english style ipa......nice hop nose...that has a bit of citrus to it.....great malt flavor....nice stuff BeerFanDan17 (610), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Apr 13, 2008 This was a very interesting IPA. Flavors were apparent but slightly underbalanced for an IPA. The hoppiness was there, but not at the level it should be for a strong IPA. This was smooth and very good, but not excellent. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Apr 8, 2008 Poured into a nonic. Hazy gamboge color with a beige head of just over an inch. No lacing but above-average retention.
Nose isn’t very strong but I get an odd note that strikes me as very similar to bay laurel. Obviously a hop-induced aroma but not one I’ve ever inhaled before.
Flavor starts out with the same note, but it’s easier to taste the nuances than to smell them. It’s quite lemony with some pepperiness that lingers as the hops fade to toffee malt. The balance here is typically British. Low bitterness, lots of earthiness.
Mouthfeel is smooth and soft, booze is unapparent, body is a shade under medium thickness. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Apr 6, 2008 750mL Bottle. Cheesy hop aroma, mingled with light oxidation. Aged alcohol character. Hazed gold pour. Rim in white. Flavor develops in a really grassy earth. Pithy. Planty. Oxidization and dust. Bits of wood float around. Body is as expected, nothing out of the ordinary. Probably to style considering the massive use of Fuggles. Thanks wickedpete for bringing this. wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Apr 5, 2008 Heavy malt aroma while light on hoppiness. Color is a cloudy pale orange. The flavor is a pleasant honey maltiness with a persistent bitterness from the front to the finish. Nice to try once.
