kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jun 15, 2006 (bottle) Hazy gold with rapidly fading head. Grassy hops aroma. Flavor is grassy, a tad sweet, but not quite enough malt body. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jun 15, 2006 Nice looking bottle, great marketing at work. Medium orange, OK head, lots of hazy stuff in suspension. Aroma restrained, a bit of biscuit malts combined with faintly vegetal hops. Hop profile ended up tasting better than I expected. Although it started off a bit seedy and vegetal, as the beer warmed, a slight pine bitterness melded with the caramel accented malts. Not bad. Not spectacular, but a nice version of hoppy by English standards. Glouglouburp (2782), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 15, 2006 Cloudy golden-orange body with a small white head. Hops IPA lacked character and were overwhelmed by the sweet malt. Very sweet (honey), even too sweet. Honey-ish mouthfeel with a very short finish. Slightly oxidized. Overall, felt like an aged IPA (which are renown for not aging well). The bottle wasn’t old though. Maybe it suffered from premature aging like a 25 year old suburb blue collar worker mowing his lawn on a saturday morning. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jun 12, 2006 Large 750ml bottle picked up at Sainsbuy’s. Dark orange coloured beer with large fluffy white head. Aroma of hops and malt, taste was very malty and hoppy not as bitter as expected but decent beer. Quevillon (1519), Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Canada Jun 4, 2006 Post-mondial Tasting. Orange un peu transparent, peu de collet. Arome d’houblon super caramelisé. Faible goût d’houblon, très alcoolisé. Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 4, 2006 Golden orange cloudy colored ale with a fading white head. Unfortunately, despite being apparently less than a year old, the bottle started to show early signs of oxidation, coin-like metallic edges appearing in both the nose and mouth while the palate showed more obvious fatigue, the carbonation being very untight, loose and nowhere unifying. Otherwise, I found the nose extremely promising, perhaps it just must be drank absolutely fresh, but I suspect I would appreciate it a lot with less vague hop character. As it was, the nose was soft, yeasty and gently earthy with full on woodsy spicy oranges and green floweriness. Limited bitterness shows focus on aromatic aspects while the underneath malt character is one of support, yet still offering a good backing sweetness, if lacking in tightness at this stage of development. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Jun 3, 2006 Poured a hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Malty aroma with light English style hops. Caramel flavor with thin hops from middle to finish. Bitterness is light on the finish.. presario (2955), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jun 3, 2006 Orange with a lot of dusty particulate after the big cork-like chunks have settled. Interesting aroma of vanilla, caramel and hops is very different for a big IPA. Flavour is hops and caramel with some pine notes. Finish is big chewy and citrus. Silky body with an uplifting zest.
