Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Jun 1, 2006 BCA (From Sainsburys). Upon opening a brief glimpse of melon, grapefruit and floral hops. These aromas fade to leave a more earthy, woody but still floral hop presence with hints of citrus. The hops are underpinned by neat malt with a dash of caramel. The malts become more noticeable in the body with a little sweetness up front before the hop bitterness builds slightly to leave a reasonably clean and fresh finish. Very drinkable and well balanced for a beer of its strength. Despite liking this quite a bit I couldnt help but feel like something was lacking, perhaps a more aggresive hop presence could be handled in a beer of this strength which the initial hoppy aroma almost seemed to promise. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA May 29, 2006 (04.14.06) 1 pint, 9.4 oz brown bottle from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. Labeled 51642. Poured hazy orange with medium white head. Some yeast particulates. Soft carbonation. Fruit and soapy-smelling hops in the nose. Medium bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and citrus (grapefruit) hop/toffee flavors. Finished with light lingering bitterness and hop flavor fade. A hoppy beer that has a greater hop flavor than bitterness. Firm malt backbone supports the heavy hop presence. A delicious IPA. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA May 28, 2006 This IPA pours an orange gold color from a cork finish 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is malt and caramel, touch of grapefruit and earthy. A medium bodied English style IPA. Malts are fruity and caramel. Hops are grapefruity and earthy. Mild flavors, subtle balance between the hops and malts. A very drinkable IPA. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Hangover (764), Atlanta, USA May 24, 2006 Interesting bottle for an IPA... pretty cool. Very English aroma with some hops and sweet malt. Medium carbonation. Hops up front, not assertive but there, mostly citrus. Alcohol towards the middle and end, but has a nice caramel finish to go with the citrus hops. I’m surprised I caught so much alcohol for 7.5%. Somewhat thin, but I think I like this take on the style. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA May 23, 2006 This was an excellent IPA. Poured hazy cloudy deep red orange color. aroma has some sweetness in the aroma. i got some grapefruit and apricot in addition to the usual orange blossom type flavor. some pine/spruce notes and good malt backbone. had good balanced flavor, and had a bit of a dry finish. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA May 22, 2006 Pours a hazy amber. The aroma is full of earthy hops. The flavor is more malt than hops and is cracker malt. Good stuff. Not as aggressive as the American branch fo the style, but good nontheless. Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 22, 2006 Cloudy orange, with an nice sized white head. Crisp, citrusy aroma. Surprisingly sweet at first, with notes of toffee and maybe some molasses. Crisp hop bite. Unique, but also unmistakelably British. Sampled at Noogfest2. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA May 22, 2006 An orange appearance with a faint pine and citrus aroma. A very smooth and easy drinking beer but not much complexity. The flavor is somewhat malty and less bitter than most IPAs Ive had. Thats all I got today.
